When painting black armor, it looks good for individual models. But a tank primed black doesn't look anywhere near as good. Does anyone know off-hand the highlight colors people use on Black Templar tanks? I'm having a surprisingly hard time finding this information, even with google, thanks!

Yeah, codex gray is the way to go, also remember to use a very thin brush, because if it is big, the highlights wont look as neat (I made that mistake myself).

in a couple of patches (literally two or three) you can add a little bit of brightening to the middle of the highlight, like its all shiny-like reflecting the light.

If you want a more subtle highlight or a base highlight to build off of, use Adeptus Battlegrey. A lot of people forget it exists. For a more "blue" metal, use Shadow Grey, preferably mixed with black. Also, paint over the primer with black paint - acrylic paint his a bit of "pop" that catches light far better than matte primer.

Where you least expect it...

I paint black on my nightgoblings robes by spraying caos black layering chardon granite and then drybrush heavely with codex and finaly wash with badab black. This propably works beter on texture, but it gives a subtle, but suficient higlight and a black wich isnt to flat. U can skip the chardon granite if you want

just because i'm swedish doesent mean that i'm blonde. I just hapen to be anyway

As others have said, use Codex gray, and don't just primer black. Paint it black as well.

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.
