Hi there,
just wondering what book I should buy first to get into LOTR, I just got a few models of my brother and I really enjoy painting them, far more than my marines. I have the Fellowship and a large number of characters from Rohan and Gondor. I'm keen on playing themed skirmishes, as I just re watched the movies and would like to re inact some of the scenes. Moria, and the likes. Advice is welcome.
Cheers, James

Welcome tto the hobby!
The skirmish game is the Strategy Battle Game, to play, you need the big blue book with 'strategy battle game' on the cover. If you want to play moria skirmishes, get yourself the Mines of Moria starter set. You get a lot of goblin models and the rulebook for a cheaper price. Look for it on the GW-site. The only problem is that you get the fellowship again, but even then you get the rulebook and moria goblins cheaper. You should maybe also get the three journeybooks (fellowship, two towers and return of the king). Then look what models you need to play the games, and you are ready to play

He said he wanted to play themed skirmishes and re inact scenes from the movie. Is bigger battles not kinda the opposite?

I've bought some riders of Rohan, simply because I love them in the movie and they are wicked looking models, should I chuck some photos of them up in here or in the modelling thread?

If you want to reenact the Fellowship actions from the movie, get the Big Blue Book, the Journeybooks, and all the models that the Journeybooks tell you to have. If you want to play skirmish battles of your Riders of Rohan and another army, like Uruk-hai, get LoME. If you want to do a big big battle with no theme at all, get WotR.
