This is a DK that I've been working on, and although there are some areas that are unfinished, I'd say he's nearing completion. As you may have surmised, I decided to try Catattafish's method of painting thunder hammers to the NFGS. Thanks again to him for posting that tutorial.

Nice painting mate! Add some rocks in my opinion or something. How is the rest of the armies bases?

I agree on the basing. Something that size definitely needs some points of interest. The washed out metallics look good- like it might have actually fought a battle! I would perhaps have liked to have seen a bit more of the spot colours (red or white) in amongst the body to break up the constant metal however. Are you planning to add on one of the shoulder shields?

Great work. You did especially well on both weapons. I like the red color of the cannon, Nice paint job!

I was thinking of jigsaw-puzzling some flat desert colored rocks together on their bases for an effect similar to this and perhaps some arid flora (small weeds?), but as of right now I haven't based any of them yet.

Yeah, the shield is still a work in progress. I'll probably paint a red-white pattern on one of the leg plates as well. I need to figure out a way to paint designs over the red and white though-- they don't include water mark decals with Grey Knights and I'm not really good enough at painting to make consistently good looking decals via freehand.

Thank you very much!

I love it! It's been very well painted and the subtlety of the red is great.

My only criticism would maybe to give it an Asurman Blue wash?
It may help give it more of a metallic feel.

The sword is awesome, I wish I had seen this before I started my one.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Will post an update here once I finish basing it.

By the way, I had a prototype of the sword and I did the "pulse" theme (which is what I ended up doing for the model in the original post) on one side and on the other I focused more on the edges. Which do you guys prefer?

I like the burst design on the first one better, but I think with a little edging it would be over the top.

I honestly can't decide which I prefer - the pulse or the edge focus. I want to say you should try combining the two, but I don't think that would work nearly as well as either method, independently.

I can give it a try. The DK who the test sword belongs to uses a hammer, so no harm done.

The edge theme was originally supposed to have pulses on it, but by the time I had finished highlighting the edges I realized it was going to look a lot busier than the pulse theme as it was-- and adding pulses to it might make it a mess. I like the outline definition of the edge pattern but I like the "non-verbose" look of the pulse pattern, so to speak. Hmm, I'll see what I can do.

I also realized that the test sword's patterns were done before I had practiced the technique a bit, so perhaps I'll be able to figure out how to combine them this time.

You did a great job on the sword. The red on the guns looks good.

I started work on basing him. I'm going to add some charred demons and perhaps some scorched foliage as well. Highlighting is still a work in progress.
