Hello all!

I know how this section of DAKKA can be but i must assure you, I have recently won 3rd (and lost out of second by one point *kicks myself*) with a slight variation of this list in a 1250 doubles tourney a few weeks back, my partner for the last and the upcoming tourney will be an imperial guard player, he plays a nice LR heavy IG swarm list which he plays better than it sounds like he could. Although our combined lists make for a hell of a shooting gallery we know that we suffer in CC, luckily we are yet to find a pure CC army which can get to us in one in strong enough numbers to do any damage up close


Anyways, next month we got a 1500 (3k a team) doubles tourney, here is what I was thinking, although im conflicted:

Total Roster Cost: 1499
4x1 Herald of Tzeentch: Master of Sorcery, We Are, Bolt of Tzeentch, Chariot of Tzeentch
3x3 Flamers of Tzeentch
2x 9 Pink Horrors of Tzeentch: Bolt of Tzeentch
9 Pink Horrors of Tzeentch: Bolt of Tzeentch, The Changeling
X2 Daemon Prince of Chaos: Mark of Tzeentch, Daemonic Gaze

the other variation i have is two simple DPs with iron hide only and 4x7 horrors to bullk up my ammount of scoring units.

In previous games oddly enough the 10 man horror units last longer than the measly 5 man suicide squads, i've tried to find middle ground though, the DPs are always shot at first and seeing how exxpensive they can get in a C:CD army i'm sceptical to beef them up, not to mention the HERALDS on chariots are beasts: W5 4++ jetbikes which cut down marines and tanks at the same time? priceless and opponents in my area still think of them as much weaker than the DPs, i have only been running 2-3 heralds but i'm going to have my shot at 4 for good measure and i might even think of switching around some of the powers on them (boon anyone?)

I love flamers too, they rarley do me wrong and almost always make thier points back immediatley

I would have thought (and only seeing this in action 3/4 times) that squads of 5 Horrors with Bolt work better. Because unless your behind the tank, Bolt is the only thing thats going to shoot a tank. And if its not shooting a tank, it seems like a waste of an upgrade you could spend on something else. Otherwise i like it, Heralds are great, flamers are powerful you have a decent ammount of Horrors and Deamon Princes are tough.

Consider dropping the bolt from the horror units and putting them on the DPs. They are a more stable platform for your bolts with a higher BS. The HoTs are not BS 5 btw they are BS4.

Dropping the 4th HoT for wings on your Dps might be another choice. Being able to get the only units you have capable of winning in CC where you need them might be nice.

Mono-Tzentch is about the only pure mono list that is competive coupled with IG even more so.
Your going to need to relie on your partner for anything above AV 12 to reliable open with shooting. (But I bet you knew that).

Dont Forget your DPs can handle most CC troop choices with their statline and 4++.

Yes those smaller squads help with tanks, especiallly behind them, but they work better with warpfire, 3 shot guns with AP4? Thays amazing anti-infantry if you tell me, but if there's an MEQ or heavier kinda unit around then a 5 point 5 POINT upgrade to a bolt is a great choice regardless. Small squads suffer with tourney play in my area because tourneys usually have special rules and optional extra points that can be added, and small horror units, as cheap as they are, die to fire much much easier than thier larger counterparts. I was going to go 9 for the god's number but i am still contemplating middle ground with 4x7 horrors.

Yes i know the synergy of our lists and the role i play and my partners as well when he's rolling out with 4+ Russes andhordes of flashlights ohhh boy. I wish i could agree with you on wings but man, that's 60points, 120 points if on both princes and that's just too many points for an already DSing unit; Bolt too. Bolt is 35 pts on a DP and 5 on a horror unit, this is also why im contemplating just making unmarked princes with iron hide, CC without the shooting/gunboat sttatus since i don't have the points for that, but everything else in this army is shooty up the wazoo, just not at BS5

Any opinions on troop sizes? im truly confliced on horror sizes, though I think the changeling needs protection in a crowd to be effective. in the 1250 tourney we got 3rd in I ran 2 squads of 5 and one squad of 10, I was thinking of possibly running the same but adding another 10 man squad but that would leave me unable to take more than one prince.
