I hope this is the right section if not I'm sorry. I tried searching for information on this subject but I couldn't find anything.

Free-for-all games involving multiple people. My friends and I are brand new to this game and there is four potentially five people playing. We would like to do some free-for-all games. We have a few questions though. For quick reference during the questions I'll just use the army names Tau (myself), Ork, Chaos, DE, and IG.

-If Ork and DE are locked in melee and take equal wounds so they keep fighting and then it's my turn. Can I fire into their group, neither of those two are on my team so I don't see why my Tau wouldn't fire into them.
What is the rule for doing this, if it's allowed?

This next set is for 2v2 games that we play.

-Can we share transports that aren't dedicated.
Could I take some guardsmen in my Devilfish and drive them around?

-Can their IC join in my squad.
So if I have a bunch of fire warriors could Thraka come in and help my guys out?

-Does the blast template rule apply to allied armies.
If my IG bud fires a large blast does he have to avoid my units in the initial placement?

-Does line of sight work with my allied units.
If I'm trying to shoot at the DE but a group of allied Boyz are in front of me do I get LoS through them like I do with my own troops?

Those are my only questions I can think of at the moment. If I think of more I'll post them on here.

There are rules for a multiperson free for all game in the 40k rulebook (not in the assault on black reach rules), honestly it doesn't work very well. i did a 3 person free for all; it was more of a 2 person pound on the guy who gets the first hit in.

as for 2v2 there are no official rules so your friends could either colloborate on them or wait till someone posts there's here.

edit: realized i should have been clearer on where to find the rules

The Broken Alliance scenario is really only intended for 3 players. Beyond that, there are no 'free for all' rules.

Or play Apocalypse games, which are designed for team play.

In which situation, each team member's special rules are exclusive to their own army.

The way that I play is nearly always with 4 players. We play it as a normal 2 player game (i.e. one 1500 point force vs another 1500pt force) and simply give each player control of half an army, approximately. So, say, 1500 orks, I control the Nobz and a battlewagon, and my friend gets the shootas and the trukks, that kinda thing.

For 3 players, one person gets a side, the other 2 split a side in the same manner. Not in the rules, but it seems like a good way to do it for us.

If you want to do it with teams, then indeed, you should try Apocalypse as Insaniak has said. Just omit the superheavies and stuff, it's not significantly more complex.

In multiplayer free for all games (Though I do not recommend playing too many of these since there are no hard and fast rules to them), I would say its fine to fire into the melee, with splitting the hits between the two opponents fighting. E.G. hit eight times, each unit in melee takes four hits, and roll to wound from there.

[I Inserted the Yellow above]
As for 2v2 team games, we usually play that each army only follows their own rules.

So there can be no sharing of transports, dedicated or not it does not matter. No IC's joining units that were not bought in the same force organization as they are, and allies(Teammates) are considered friendly models for Template or blast MARKER placement.

You can never see through your own units with clear LoS, unless the models that are blocking LoS are members of the unit that is shooting.

Lets say you have Unit 1 in a line of ten fire warriors directly behind Unit 2 in a line of ten fire warriors, Unit 1 has a clear shot at the ork unit, while Unit 2 firing through Unit 1 would grant the ork unit a cover save if 50% or more of the ork unit was fired at through Unit 1.

In addition, when we play 3 or 5 player games, we set a point limit, say 4000 points, then divide it by player sides. So if its a 3 player game, the single player will have two 1000 point FOC armys vs the team with one 1000 point army each. A total of 2000 points per side.

It makes it fair and most people can make 2 1,000 point armys.

If it is 5, again one side will have 2 members one will have 3. On the 2 memeber side one will run two 1000 point armies and one will run one 1000 point army for a total of 3000 points per side.

Each FOC follow their own rules, I.e. If Tau and Orks are playing against IG and IG, one's Orders do not affect the others. You're Markerlights can't be used by the Orks, Ect.

We do it the same way as you guys, works well. However we allow you allies support to affect your units, if the rules are worded that way("friendly units"). Even the most broken combinations don't tend to break the game anymore than two armies simply evening out each other's weaknesses by unit choices. Battlewagon bash supported by mech eldar for anti-tank and objective grabbing or an imperial gunline "buble-wrapped" by a kan wall is just as strong as three monoliths hiding underneath a KFF.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

there was a 4 player scenario a good while back, was and still is quite fun carnage is its name... ahhh such a good mission.

I cannot find "official" rules (WD 277 (UK), 276 (US) ish (jan 2003))

basics :
4 players
1 central objective, big building, bunker, webway gate, something several armies could be fighting for
players decide who deploys first in traditional manner (highest d6 deploys first, second highest second, etc)
deploy into corners (zone depends on table size, last time our table was 4x4 so we did 12 inches in i think)
player turns go clockwise (to make it easy to note who goes next)

it plays pretty well still under current rules (played a few games of it at the beginning of this month)

and for firing into combats we randomised which units were being hit

and now for finding the year of this issue of white dwarf out... i am going to go into to a corner and feel at least slightly old...

We always play 2v2, but we figured out that sharing powers would be massively OP...
Fortuned Paladins with Draigo and Eldrad attached... yea.

They take a lot longer, that's for sure. But I always enjoy them more than 1v1.
