Played against a friendly guy last night at my FLGS. First time playing against Grey Knights so I didn't really have a clue what they did (it will be the last time I charge Draigo and 9 Paladins with my Archon/Incubi/Hammi squad).

He said that all of his vehicles have a special rule called Psychic Pilot that allows them to make a Psychic test at LD 10 to ignore all stunned/shaken results. However, the part that I thought was fishy was that he was taking this test in MY shooting phase (immediately after I would stun/shake his Stormraven) and, if he failed the test, would take it again on HIS turn to negate the stun/shake.

I should have asked him for his codex, but I just decided not to mess with it. Is this how it actually works?

Also, he tried to say that vehicles could take cover saves if I am shooting through area terrain. I told him that doesn't work for vehicles but he stated that the vehicle rules only say they don't benefit from cover for being *IN* area terrain. If you shoot through area terrain that has protruding peices (like a ruin for example), then vehicles get cover. I argued with him for a little bit and he dropped it but he said he knew some offical GW source that ruled it his way. I personally don't buy any "official" GW source as GW has shown they are a pretty bad company who doesn't even know their own rules time and time again. Anyway, does cover for vehicles work this way or not?

Vehicles use the 50% LOS rule at all times. As for the fortitude psychic power, it specifies that it must be done in the grey knight's movement phase.

Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

Go easy on the guy though....he may be cheating, but at least he's playing an underpowered codex.

I have never failed to seize on 4+ in my life!

Probably work

Yeah, 50% rule for cover as above, and Fortitude can only be done during the GK movement phase.

Every vehicle in the GK codex has Fortitude EXCEPT Inquisitorial Chimeras. I feel that's worth mention.

I don't think he was cheating. I have learned that most people develop a certain way of playing the game because the rules are so bad and peoples' communities get really inbred in how the game is played. He more than likely actually thought it worked that way. It doesn't really matter since Ld 10 is pretty difficult to fail anyway. Plus, I played horribly because I didn't know how frikkin' ridiculously insane Paladins are. My Archon got toasted.

the thing is this,

I think Area terrain does provide cover depending on the Area terrain.

if its forest or Ruins which clearly block LoS if the trees/ruins are moved between the vehicle and the firer then it does provide cover.

if its things like bushes or swamp then no cover.

It doesn't matter what kind of terrain it is. If a vehicle is 50% or more covered then you get a cover save = to the value of the cover you are hiding behind (in 99% cases a 4+).

by "kind" i really meant height since covering the vehicle is what matters.
