I just recently got into 40k, being a fantasy player mostly. I started a CSM army, and bought a demon prince. My empire guys all came out fine, but they are small and detailed, not like the demon prince, which is huge by comparrison. Despite my experience painting my empire fantasy minis, I am still an amateur painter IMHO. I primed the DP black, and did a basecoat of merchite red, the foundation pauint on the areas I want to be red, I.e. his exposed skin. Now the paint is chipoping and bubbling, and it did not go on very easily. Maybe my paint is dry? Maybe I need a new brush? It seems liek as son as I get the paint on my brush it gets sticky and its like trying to paint with a fountain pen. Like I said, my Empuire fantasy soldiers a have all come out very nice and neat, but they are tiny in comparisson, and I dont have to worry about keeping paints open and drying out with them.

Chipping and bubbling? That's wacky. Try thinning your paint. You should put a few drops of water in the pot and shake it to make sure the paint thins out a bit and becomes smooth.

"Chipping and Bubbling" almost sounds as if the model had some residual moisture (from washing) that prevented the primer from adhering. That or some oil / mold release. Maybe the model wasn't at room temperature before it was primed and moisture condensed on it ?
