G'day Dakkanauts,

I've got a couple of quick questions for my game tomorrow. I'm playing Nids versus Mech Guard and I've got a pretty solid list I think, but I've got a few questions that I need answered. First, can you start your entire army in reserve and thus avoid Alpha strike, or do you have to have at least one unit on the board at the beginning?

Also, I guess the large oval base is the correct size for a Tervigon, but about how high do you all think a model should be? Obviously I don't have one at the moment, but I need to know for terrain issues!

Please help!

Everything can be in reserve. See "reserves", and note that there are no restrictions. Additionally no basic mission requires you to install anything.

Given number of wounds and toughness, roughly trygon sized, possibly a little smaller, shoudl be fine. Generaly tervigons dont benefit from being taller than average (its only a detriment to getting cover) so aim for too-big and not too-small and you shoudl be safer.

I made my tervigons out of Trygon kits and used the oval base from that kit. None of my opponents have complained about the size and i usually get compliments on the conversions. If the table has 25% or better terrain/cover then deploy behind it. If not then start making terrain to take with you. My sig has a link to my blog that shows my 5 tervigons, they do have mommy bits and might be considered NSFW.

Ah, thanks Nosferatu and Unicorn, those were exactly the answers I was hoping for, cheers!

Also, I checked out your Tervigons Unicorn, very cool, and yup, those are definitely mommy parts! I might try and rip that idea if in the future!

I used the carnefex base for my tervigon and tyrannofex because from looking at the codex they looked like they were essentially the same chassis. For the same reason I used the tyragon/maloc base for my harpy/PoM.

No one has every even questioned it.

Rule of cool definitely comes into play here. The better it looks, the less likely that anyone will complain.

I mostly see them on the big oval bases, but occasionally on the smaller 60mm round. It mostly depends on what model/s the owner converted them from and what seemed right to him. I'd tend to say larger makes sense, what with the 6 wounds.

Somewhere in south-central England.

Mine is on the Trygon oval base. I've not had any complaints.

People obsess too much about base sizes. You usually find what you win on the swings you lose on the roundabouts.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I think you would be more likely to get feedback if you post it in the Painting and Modelling section

I say bull for oval base. Who cares if it's 6 wounds. How come SM characters that have 4 wounds are still on a 25mm base?

If we are to compare Wounds to bases then SM SC should be on 40mm size base or bigger to then.

I could be wrong, but isn't some SM SC still on 25mm bases? So if they have more than one W they should be on bigger bases as well correct?

The way I see it for 5th Edition, if you convert it from a Carnifex, then a 60mm base is legal since it's the Original Base it came with, and if you convert it with a Mawlog/Trygon, then use the Oval Base it came with.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Do you mean parasite of mortrex? The thing which is meant to be tyranid warrior sized as it says in the fluff in the codex? It's jump infantry, not a monstrous creature. although i wouldn't mind really as it then gives me a larger target to shoot as well, I just thought you should know that it can be much smaller.

I play:
Imperial Fists - 9000 pts
Tyranids - 1500 pts

Yeah, that was supposed to be just the harpy in that sentence. My PoM is just a Red Terror with wings and DoM is new Zoanthrope body with old Zoanthrope head.

Nice Avatar.
