I was wondering if I fielded an archon (toughness 3) with a retinue of toughness 5 models and this unit gets hit with a strength 6 template, does the archon use toughness 5, due to all around toughness? Also would this negate instant death on archon if he were to take a wound because of all round toughness 5?

Unless he has a special rule (he might I know nothing about Dark Eldar) then he uses his toughness of 3.

However you could simply allocate the wounds onto members of his retinue in which case you would use their toughness and armor save.

Would use the majority toughness, which would be 5 if you have a retinue of Toughness 5 beasites, and he would still be instagibbed if he failed a save.

Yes i just realized that I forgot that there is allocation of wound afterwards. I do get to use the toughness 5 for the template to wound me. But then I allocate those wounds, which one of them would be on archon. If archon does fail the save he is instantly killed. Thank you for your responses guys.
