I am pretty new to the world of first person shooter games. so i was wondering. what are the best 1st person shooter games? please post back. thanks guys

Here's my list (not necessarily in order of preference):

-Halo (3 was awesome, ODST was not exceptional, Reach is pretty cool)
-crysis (both the 1 and the 2 were pretty cool too)
-CoD (love the modern warfare series)
-battlefield bad company (bad company 1 quite good, the second one is awesome)

Well if you are asking for PS3, I would say the Killzone series. The Resistance series are pretty good too. Then you have to ones like Modern Warfare and Battlefield that are on multiple systems.

Fallout 3 or New Vegas are both good as you can switch to 3rd Person and have lots of DLC.

my list of FPS games to get on the PS3 are:

-Resistance 2. single player is really good, co-op is amazing. multiplayer not so good but with co-op you hardly go on it.

- CoD4 (or MW1). I'm going to get burned at the stake for this but this is the only CoD post CoD2 that i would allow you to play. single player is frankly awesome and the multiplayer isn't too bad either.

-MGS4. while it may not be a FPS, I'm still including it because you are not a true FPS player unless you have played this game.

lastly, I'm going to recommend Vegas 2. purely because online terrorist hunt is by far the most engrossing co-op mode I've ever played.

Killzone!

Killzone 2 and 3 are both very good.

Resistance 1 and 2 are also good. I preferred 2, but many people seem to like the hybrid health system from 1.

Killzone 2 was great, haven't tried 3, but 2 had a great story and the multiplayer was fun for a while.

Any Call of Duty game is decent IMO, I liked MW2 a lot, but haven't touched it since Black Ops came out. I'll probably get MW3 but not right off the bat, I'll wait and get it used a month later.

Only game I have on my must have list is Space Marine even though that's not really a FPS

Currently playing a lot of CoD Black Ops and Killzone 3 ... so far I love it.

CoD black ops.

But my favourite is definately Killzone 3. Why? Because when you melee someone you don't always just knock them with your rifle, ypu can burst their eyes in! Funny favouring an FPS for melee, but its also kind of scifi so I like that.

Pfft!!! The best one is the Little Big Planet fan-mod take on Black Ops! I can't believe I'm the first one to suggest it!
