As someone who plays both, I would say your most valuable unit is shoota boyz, closely followed by Killa Kanz.

Make sure that every unit has a powerklaw, this is a really good deterrent to stop MCs from charging your hordes. The trick to winning is pretty simple, shoot the fighty stuff and fight the shooty stuff, but I struggle to give advice without knowing what your or your opponent's lists entail.

Just as a general thing; grotzooka kanz and shoota boyz!

10-15 Burna Boyz in a battlewagon. It's a powerful squad against most armies, but against an army with no tanks, it's stupid good.

I like to have mine lead by my kff mek with a burna and bosspole.

Massed Lootas. They're good against literally everything Tyranids have. You'll want a good amount of these.

Keep your Vehicles and Dredds away from his Monstrous Creatures. It might seem like a good idea to smash your Deffdredd into his Carnifex, or Deffrolla his Trygon, but trust me, that's the surest way to get those units killed, because all Monstrous Creatures have 2d6 armour penetration, and most Nids have silly amounts of attacks- plus Scything Talons, which are essentially twin-linked melee weapons.

Shoot 'em and Burn 'em. Skorcha buggies would be rather useful in this instance, as would a bit mob of Tankbustas, actually- because there's no enemy vehicles, they can shoot and assault what they want.

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

If yer an Ork, why dont ya WAAAGH!!

Don't place multiple units on foot too near each other, because the doom in a pod will drop in and eat them up and have 10 wounds in no time. Power klaws are good insurance against this, but lootaz and grots can't take them so beware.
If he's got Tervigons spawning lots of termigants try to get a multicharge so that the power klaw nob can hit the Tervigon and the boyz can kill lots of termigants to force lots of fearless wounds on the Tervigon.
Also biovores can hide and drop indirect large templates that cause lots of pain to squads on foot. Snikrott may help combat this.
Basically power klaws and transports for everything that can take them!

Tankbustas are also something to consider. Normally you'd leave them at home but since Nids don't have vehicles, well, Rokkits everywhere
