quick question- are they -5 armor save total or -3 thanks!

-5, it negates armour with 2 due to being str 5, and again with a further 3 with its armour piercing 3.

try taking the Helstorm Rocket Battery as a precedence, it's right on the opposite page. last paragraph "Damage" says that you cause a Strength 5 hit with the normal -2 modifier to armour. with such clear wording you're not going to combine it with the other set of stats.

the Helblaster only reduces armour by 3 points. it's just a S5 Armour Piercing gun on other terms.

There is no such rule as "armour piercing 3"

The tbale shows the total AS reduction, 3

I think what was meant was its str 5 and has ap so its minus 3 armor in total (using some maybe confusing wording) but ya -3 to armor dont blow up and good luck.

Actually that´s pretty clear imo.

AP = -1 armor
S5 = -2 armor

So you get -3 in total.

There used to be (possibly still are, but cannot think of any) spells that specifically affected unit with AP weaponry, so its possible they didnt want the hellblaster included in that.

Its why repeater bolt throwers arent AP, they just inflict an additional -1 when fired as multiple shots.

The Rain Lord or something similar (-1 to hit with missile weapons, if they had AP was -2).

Yeah, lore of life spell from memory - which is why you never saw it, as life was fairly terrible in 7th.

Less so in 8th!
