New here so not 100% sure this is the right section, but it seems the closes to appropriate that I can find.

Over the years I've played:
Orkz
Space Wolves
Witchhunters (Current)

And I'm thinking I'd like a change of pace. As dumb, tactically speaking, as it sounds, I only ever really pay attention to my own armies so I don't know much about the crunch of the others. I was hoping you guys could help me find a good fit for what I'm looking for.

Primarily, I'm looking for something with the fewest possible models. My play style tends to focus on those that have the most bang for their buck and I'd much prefer to field two guys than two hundred.

Secondly, I like stuff with room for customization both in terms of fluff, appearance and how I use them.

Thirdly, I like things with a good backstory, but that's not too important.

Fourthly, I like rather... flexible armies. I like being able to throw my guys into ranged or melee combat and use them differently for every situation.

That's all I can think of really. If one of my previous armies fits this well, let me know because I'd prefer not to switch to something new for the sake of new if something I already have works best for me. Thanks!

Sounds kind of like you'd be into a Grey Knight Paladins army. They can take units of Paladins - 2 wound Terminators where every model can have unique equipment, even going so far as to master craft each piece of gear. For this army you would need two boxes minimum of Grey Knight Terminators, and Lord Kaldor Draigo, as he makes them troops. Technically, you can field 1 paladin model as a unit, so you could conceivably field an army of Draigo and just two guys if the points were low enough!

I don't know the GK dex all that well, but you could field a force of Draigo, two squads of Paladins, maybe a Terminator Librarian, and two Stormraven gunships. Would make for a fairly mobile and flexible force, even if it couldn't hold down territory that well.

Doing a bit of research here and I'm liking the look of the GK, they seem quite my style.

Curious what others will come up with though.

Draigowing definitely emphasizes a small, elite force.

I played a 2500pt game vs eldar the other day with 15 paladins, draigo, a librarian, a ven psyrifle dread, and 3 landraiders. Not saying that is the best build ever, but you can make a lot of points with not too many models.

The Other Option could be a Deathwing army.

You get TH/SS terminators with CML's as troops. (shoot and assault)
Maybe you could throw in a squad of Ravenwing Bikers as well.

Deathwing are excellent for a fairly cheap, small-sized force which can handle melee really well and put out decent shooting. Combine with some Ravenwing bikers for a doublewing and it's a flexible and strong army.

Buddy of mine runs a Marines bike army with Shrike and Khan (using Shrike's tactics). Pretty small size, fairly competetive as well.
