Should be an easy question ...

There is currently an ongoing melee, its been going on for many many turns. A aura type killy thing (doom of malan'tai or any other 6" auto wound regardless of anything ... thing) destroys the squad in his shooting phase.

A few questions ...

A) Is the surviving side (same side as the 'aura') only permitted to consolidate and that is it?

If not ...

B) May it shoot/run/use shooting psychics?
C) Charge another unit?

It was a casual game and we played it as the other siide would be considered 'locked' until the assault phase came and went, even though the unit died off. What is the correct way to do it?

Unless specified in the powers rules, you can not kill a unit that is currently in CC with shooting attacks in the shooting phase.

Edit: I think I understand what you mean by "A aura type killy thing"

If this were to happen, you can not consolidate, since you only consolidate after you win an Assaut.

It may act normally within the shooting phase, it can run or shoot as normal, also it can charge as normal.

Basically the unit dies from any sort of out of phase killing, such as a scattering blast, a psychic power that hits everything within X inches regardless of combat, etc. I was being vague on purpose to avoid any special 'this guy is unique' twists.

It's NOT a gun, it just auto wounds everything within 6" on a LD test, locked units included.

If a unit is not locked, it may shoot / run

It deosnt matter that it was locked at the start of the shooting phase, just that, at some point in the shooting phase, it isnt locked and can now act.
