Hmmm. For commision work I would expect models to be a little tidier.

In the first picture, for example, you can see a watermark on the halberd where the wash has pooled in the wrong place. On the second model the books could definitely use some tidying up as well as another layer or two, at the moment it looks streaky and a little messy. The white and red on both the shoulder pad and the mini-shield also need a few additional layers.

All in all, there are some improvements that could be made, and as this is commision work I'd advise making them prior to posting the models. However, as long as the client is aware of the quality of work you offer then I can't say much to the detriment.

You need a lot more practice before you do commission, The model looks awful compared to a lot of other commissions I've seen.

Sorry.

That doesn't provide any methods of improvment in anyway just rude for rudeness sake.

Totally agree. One thing I would say is work on your brush control.

NjSde, you shouldn't slander other peoples models like that, be constructive!

Dwarves-about 2000 points, most unpainted. Kill me now.

I agree, NjSde was a little rude here. I don't think he meant to be rude "for rudeness sake" - it's just a different kind of honest criticism us Europeans tend to offer.
To my mind, he does have a valid point here. I for one agree with him as well, because you definitely DO need a bit more practice - although it depends on who you're painting this miniature for.
Try to add a few highlights and darklining, and the model will look a lot better.
And please, don't be too overconfident. Mostly, this results in disappointment. Take your time to learn the hobby's basic techniques and try to improve step by step rather than all at once.

By the way, I've made some of the mistakes you're making here myself. I was sure I could enter my miniatures into the GD competition years ago, simply because I was so fond of them. Thank gosh I never did.
Second, try to look over how people from other countries (cultures) post their comments, and focus on what they say. Remember, Italian people consider this gesture offensive:

Everyone else, however, thinks someone waving their hand at you like this means "everything's all right".

its not horrible, and with all the comments and advice people are giving to you, you are on the right track. And dont listen to people that say your work sucks, if you're happy about your work, then it is all that matters. Other people opinions are only bonuses

I think they look pretty good. If this was for a top of the line commission work I would say you need more practice but if this is work for a friend who just wants a painted army and likes your painting then I say they look pretty good.

From you pictures I would say that you and I are pretty close on painting skills. Some highlights would definitely improve the models! I would consider drilling the barrels as well. I would also thin down the white paints. If you are using GW paints I found that mixing some fortress grey with skull white gives you a nice white coat that spreads nice without leaving strokes.

Now with some positives!

I love the basing you did. I also think you did a great job on the inset words on the armor. I also really like the red stormbolter!

Firstly, is he waging a crusade across the Brocolli Planet? Secondly, I agree with the others, and while it sounds harsh, you're nowhere near a level for comissions. There are marks where the wash has pooled, such as on the halberd blade, the icon on his back is hideously untidy, and there are still mould-lines, such as on the hammer. If you can't even clean up mould-lines, then there's no way you'll get comissions.

First thing to do is tidy everything up. I certainly understand it is a work in progress and expect that you will clean it up. That means making sure the white of the book isn't on any of the armor, that all your paint lines are clean and crisp, that the coat is even and smooth etc, etc. I would say that I don't see a lot of highlighting. Now, I don't do this myself but I do know from other commissioned works that this is almost and expectation.

So, to sum up, work on keeping your models tidy first. Then work on more complex techniques, such as highlighting and shading. Good luck my friend! Hope my paltry advice helps!

Its not bad....but I don't think your ready for commissions. My only tip would be practice for now. Look up tutorials online too, they help a lot! Also learn from your mistakes.

your off to a good start,a littel to soon for commission work.brush control needs improved, less is more when it comes to applying paint.

has the person your doing work for seen your work, are they local?

pro painters(not the ebay kind)do commision work.

your at the beging lvl of painting, and i dont mean that to be harsh or rude.you need alot more practice, but if your client involved has seen your work and is happy with the out come than so be it.

just be careful, you ruin it you bought it.

keep up the work your doing, learn some basic skills shadeing, highlighting, and youll get to commision work down the road.

thanks
