I thought I would start a thread for Brittania players for Dystopian Wars to see who is out there and what fellow Dakka members are playing in their lists.

I play with the main box + carrier, 3 bombers(5) total, and 4 Hawks.

I haven't actually played a game because I haven't had much time but this week I will get a game in I know it!!

Well, you're farther along than me. A friend and I have just decided to pick this up, he's going Prussians, and I'm going Brittania. Just waiting for our rulebooks to come through the post, really looking forward to giving this a go.

Got the fleet box, played a few games. I really like our frigates and can't wait for the dreadnoughts.

However the battleships and cruisers leave something to be desired.

Welcome to the thread!! LOL

@EmilCrane I have read a lot of concerns about our Battleship and cruisers. I can't wait to play and test out a few tactics I have come up for them.

How have you been using them?

@htj What are you looking to get at first?

Played a few games against FSA, and I have to say it's been an uphill battle.

It'll probably get easier once the Dread and Destroyers are out though.

In my second game, I took out the Cruisers and replaced them with Hawks. I think I would have done ok, if my carrier didn't get randomly one-shot from a single torpedo volley.

A little tip. Photo copy the back of your naval/land box and you can use the cut outs as trial minis to test out up coming units or using double or more of ships you are lacking.

Like using the cruisers as gunships or what not.

@Daba I agree dreadnoughts were meant to get in the thick of things and slug it out with the best of them and then we can designate the BB as the fleet commodore and stay back to utilize it for all its worth.

Been thinking about starting a Brit fleet myself...the land forces are probably my favorite, too!

The medium tanks remind me of little land raiders, I love the Landship but can't decide what I want to use.

I'm thinking I'll start with the new Dreadnought and Destroyer releases, because they look awesome. I'm keen to get some flying units too, but I don't know how they work yet, so I'll wait and see. My book has been shipped from Maelstrom! So very excited!

Mostly as gunships whenever I get the chance.

Generally though I try to "cross the T" at RB2, that works wonders for our fleet

That was one of the tactics I was kicking around in my head. The other was a running bait idea, where I would move my whole fleet lateraly taking out targets of opportunity and then feeding certain parts of my fleet to the enemy that was chasing me.

it works! i just made the Federated States of America my primary fleet since the local gamers have just started buying DW(just saw my first LGS opponent's Prussian fleet box come in) but I played a LOT with the KoB against the Americans with a few friends, both as starters and using proxies to test out a lot of the models.

using hawks to screen the main body with mines, i tend to move laterally and keep the enemy around the outside of RB2(versus FSA, against the EBS and PE i'll keep as far away as i can since i have a gun/aux weapon advantage) and pound targets mercilessly with guns and torps until their done, and then moveo nto the next. The KoB are definitely a gambler's force, and work off of massed unlinked fires(or at least not fully linked oftentimes) to do a number of HP damage instead of possible crits.

'f course sometimes the enemy just doesn't want you to win, as i showed with a Turn 1 Sturginium Flare Crit against the KoB BB from Range Band 4 with my BB(we rerolled it in the interest of a fun game as opposed to a one sided cleanup).

Awesome I am glad to here the tactic can work. I was thinking the same thing with the hawks as well. From reading the forums everyone seems to agree that KoB cannot wipe out a unit in a single turn but if they keep their fire split and focus on multiple ships they can sink a whole section in less time than the other fleets. By implementing the Hawks you can screen your fleet as well as the enemies by allowing the their ships through but only the ones you are targeting.

Example: The enemy is arrayed that their frigates are to my right and the rest of their forces to my left. I am planning the lateral move to the right, this leaves me with the frigates as my targets. I move my hawks forward toward the enemies other ships and drop the mines. The rest of my force moves as planned. This leaves a tempting choice for the frigates full steam ahead after my fleet, which I want because this will separate them from their fleet and allow my full forces to come to bear upon the frigates only. Or they hang back and wait for the rest of their fleet to maneuver through the mines and catch up another good choice because this will allow me to continue to whittle down their ships.

I was just wondering, has anyone tried fielding Brit Cruisers with shield gens and engineers? It seems like it would make them fairly resilient and an effective long range screen, but I've not tried it out at all.

I thought I would post a few comparison shots of Brittania ships and other miniatures. Pictured are a Battleship, Hawk Rotor, Bomber, and a Cruiser. With a GW ork.

Just had a game against a Britannian land force on Sunday...it was a pretty close-run thing! My opponent's bombards destroyed my landship on turn 2 in one shot with a crit roll of box cars . He was running his landship with the turrets option, which seemed to do ok; it didn't put out a lot of dice in any one direction, but I could see how the option to cover multiple firing arcs could come in handy. In this instance, he had turned his landship broadside-on, so much of his AD output came from his broadsides.

I was wondering how interesting it would be for the turret option on the landship as theywere pointing in every which way.

How did the FSA fair with its weapons or was it destroyed before it could do anything?

Well, my landslip managed to do some damage to the costal defenses the Brits had, and my medium tanks managed to wear down his landship enough for my Lees to board it. In the end, I was able to wear down the rest of his forces with a combination of my tiny tanks, naval support, and bombard fire.

I have fielded a Prussian Dreadnought in a game that also had a Britannian Dreadnought. We were playing lengthways so it took a while to get guns in range but once in close it could spit a decent amount of dice down range, failed only by my terrible rolls!
The amount of damage they can take (I gave mine a shield generator) means that the fire that it attracted bought my smaller ships a bit more time to get around. Plus it looks the part in (as we played) a 1000pt game.
From the opposite end the Brittanian one was hurling out torpedoes and having that many turrets to broadside with was vicious, it took out my cruisers with relative ease. Built in shield generators are tasty, it took a concerted and sustained bombing campaign to take the damn thing down. Again, it looks pretty sweet.
