Hey Dakka!

I've been thinking that I wanted to start up an Eldar army. I was looking for any tips from expierienced Eldar players for possibly what to buy first and what to stay away from. The buddies I play with come from all army aspects CSM, Tau, Nids, Orks and Guard. We usually play in the smaller point games and on an around 4x4 table. Thanks for any advice.

First of all get the codex. Because we can give you hints all you want, but when your looking though different squads stats for yourself you'll be able to tell what you like, and of course the units you like will fit your play style better than we tell you. IMHO

ANYWAYS, Dire avengers are always a good choice, I consider them a must in my armies, although guardians CAN work well. you could go the jetbike route, but I don't think that bikes will work as well as a mech or footdar army at such a low point limit. Other than that its all up to what you intend to do.

Right, sorry I should have said that I picked up the codex. Dire Avengers seem like a better buy to me than Guardians...and I love the look of Warp Spiders and Wraith Lords. Are either of them effective at all? The no AP of the Warp Spider's weapon leaves me a bit confused.

Eldar is rather competitive at smaller pt levels.
I'd consider a mech force with all units mounted in Serpents.

Load up on S6 shots. Most eldar players seem to play mechdar - lots of wave serpents, falcons and fire prisms as vehicles, and avengers and fire dragoons in the serpents. Some people play footdar - moving lines of eldars, wraithlords, warwalkers, wraithguard, harlequins, guardians, avengers, etc. (wraithguard usually only pop up in an army centering around using lots of them along with wraithlords)

Basically, you'll want eldrad in either type of list, avatar if you go footdar for fearless bubble, and experiment with a bunch of models and see which playstyle you like the best. If you don't play eldrad, you'll want a farseer with doom/guide/fortune - that is what makes eldar armies really work well (well, that and tons of S6 shots).

Buy some wave serpents, magnetise the weapon mounts (although the only weapons you will need to paint at the moment are EMLs, scatter lasers, maybe shuriken cannons). You'll need at least 1 unit of fire dragons. Troops in eldar armies tend to be minimum sized units, used to seize objectives on the last turn of the game. Examples: 5 dire avengers in a wave serpent or a falcon; 3 jetbikes, possibly accompanied by a warlock.

The eldar battleforce is a bit mixed up, but a good deal as long as you know you want to include war walkers (which are a terrific choice)

Eldar Corsairs: 4000 pts
Imperial Guard: 4000 pts

Corregidor 700 pts
Acontecimento 400 pts
