I haven't played orks before and am just now starting to assemble my pieces.

I recently purchased an ork mega force, complete with 9 bikers, a trukk, 30 shoota boyz, 10 slugga boyz, 5 burna boyz, and a few nobs(can't remember exact number). I have coming in the mail an order of 15 koptas I am getting second hand, all with rokkit launchers and buzz saws.

I am looking to make a Kult of Speed army, and figure that all I really need now is wazzdakka to make the bikers troops, another trukk or two, and a battlewagon for awesomeness. I am thinking about getting warbuggies and scorchas, but not sure if they are viable in the current list.

So, my questions are as follows:

1)are buggies worth bringing in that combo?

2)should I get more bikers to fill the ranks even more?

3)is a big mek with KFF useful in this army or will he simply be left behind in the rush forward?

I plan on using the koptas in squads of 5 and having them get across the board on turn 1 to provide a nice cover base for my advancing armies. The bikers and boyz will come in and destroy everything still alive.

Thanks for any help!

I've never tried a Kult of Speed army (lack of models more than anything else). However, the Big Mek and sit in a trukk or your wagon and give cover to the trukk boyz plus any bikes you hold back. On that score, he is worth it. Remember, trukks are fast so can move 18" (19 if painted red).

Well of course everything will be painted red! What a silly comment.

I am actually disappointed that the bikers and koptas can't take a RPJ, but that won't stop me from putting one on anyway. My only concern is that the KFF only has a range of 6 inches, so I don't think it will be worth all the points I will be spending on it to protect the rest of the guys.

Yea the bubble only has a 6 inch range, but you only need 1 mini from a unit touching that 6 inch bubble to grant the WHOLE unit a cover save. So you can have 1 boy @ 6 inches, and 29 others outside of it but that whole unit has the save. KFF meks are cheap HQ choices as well, obviously you can hope them up and whatnot, but if points are tight, a bigmek with KFF is CHEAP!

Rokkit buggies are great, when used properly. Normally, they dont mix with koptas, as they compete for the same slots. But if you have 2 units of 5 koptas then you could still take a squadron of rokkit buggies, as Im sure that wont really compete much seeing as youve got 10 koptas ova dere. They are cheaper then koptas, have squadron rules (which is both a blessing and a PITA) and since they are a squadron you can use them as screens for units sorta like a cheap kanwall (firing through the squadron to get to whatever is behind them grants a 4+ cover) and they are good at denying areas on the table, and since they aer so cheap, you dont care if the enemy spends a turn or 2 blowing them up before advancing past them. But again, if your going the kopta route, they probably wont be for you

Bikers Im not so sure on. Id say, write REDBEARD. He actually took a biker heavy build to a tourny recently and so he would know best if you need more or how you should use them. The main problem with bikers, is they are really pricey, and people tend to use them to charge up and assult. Like Stormboyz, thats not how you would use them. They are more for shooting the piss out of things then charging, where as storm boyz are a counter assault unit not an assault unit. I know it sounds kindda odd, but its true.

I totally get what you are saying about bikers being shooty; I played a kid last week who got his bikers stuck in with my IG and was destroyed over the course of the combat. When he shot me, it was good but I got the charge and things went down hill for him.

Would PK be a waste on bikers? I was thinking to use them as anti-tank(I had heard they were useful for that) but I think the koptas with rokkits and maybe buzzsaws will hold that much better.

The Ork in me wants to say, yes a nob w/pk is a good choice, but again Ive never played with bikers and I know enough, to know you use them differently then just charge and chop. I read a tactic once where a guy used them as the majority of his army and used them as mobile heavy fire. Dunno how it worked, but I could still see a use of 1 pk in there, for tanks and for that, well you charged me, but at least I snipped your guys in half

I personnally love bikes. I also always take a pk with them. They serve 2 purposes in my army

A) They draw ALOT of fire, but they can also take alot of fire. This gives you the time for your trukks and such to get a jump on the enemy

B) They also put out alot of fire. They are also very fast which makes them really good for contesting and tankhunting.

But don't make the mistake in charging, unless they are nob bikers they are not made for CC. If you have to charge make sure they are a non-CC squad or a weakened squad. Bikers are very much a harrassment unit

When life give you lemons keep them, because hey, free lemons

I am assembling them now, but have only put together 1 nob with a PK. I am thinking of making 3 nobs with PK run as an elite choice, and make the other 6 be just bikers, running around and messing with the enemy. My deffkoptas are going to be able to put out a lot of anti tank also, so I am think that 4 units of tank busting fast stuff will really sting against today's meta.

Bikers you want medium sized units. Big ones are too big and small ones get shot too much. Squads of 6 are quite nice. PK/BP nob leader at the helm, always. Good powerful units.

More trukks is my other thought - lots more. You could consider a battleforce as well - 60 boyz, 12 bikes, and your array of koptas. Nice and killy.

I love them deffkoptas! They are a viable option for anti-tank!

I was krunching the numbers and this comes out to be about 1500-1750 depending on loadout. That's as is once I get wazzdakka in here. For the 1750, I can get more trukks, maybe a few more boyz, and possibly a biker or two to boost my formidable speed freeks formations.
