So I'm thinking of taking some time off work in the fall, but I'm not sure what to do for a vacation. I was wondering if Dakka has any good(hopefully not too expensive) idea's for me.

Wales... Though that may be cheap for people in Britain rather than those abroad. I'm told that northern Ibiza is good, cheapish and doesn't have the party scene if you don't like that kind of thing.

I enjoyed the redwoods with the wife a few years back. Not really roughing it and there is motels you can stay at if you do not like to sleep in a tent or camper. It was 10 dollars a night to "camp" and we got a hotel the last night for 90 bucks with a hot tub in the room! The week cost us near 600ish including food/gas. My wife had a less fun time than I on that vacation, she enjoyed Vegas more. We did Vegas for about 800 (no gambling), saw a UFC championship fight at MGM stayed at the Golden Nugget and did many free things which Vegas has tons of. There is plenty of cheap flying deals for Vegas that can be combined with hotels.
I guess it depends on how much you are looking to spend on a vacation. Best bang for my buck vacation was either the redwoods or a ski trip in the off season.

What do you mean by "not too expensive"? That tends to mean different things to different people.
I'd suggest a traveling vacation through Germany and France. Or, anywhere in the British Isles. But, those may be out of your price range.
For something cheaper, do a vacation in the Florida Keys. Tack in a few days in Orlando if you've got kids. But, even this could get a little pricey.
If you want to stay in driving distance, travel through New England, or come to Chicago. Chicago is great for a few days, but you'll start to run out of things to do if you're here over a week.
Or, if you're into the great outdoors, I'd recommend Yellowstone. It's absolutely breathtaking.
Well after thinking of road trips, cheap hotels in Cuba/Mexico, or other places, I've decided on spending a week doing a bike tour of Southern Ontario(Canada). I'll bike to a few different towns/cities, and stay in cheap motels / crash at friends / relatives places. I just hope I'll have a camera, with lots of free space(and spare batteries) for the trip! I'm sure I can find many interesting places to visit.
