I started this as just a test model, but its ended up as something where, in parts, I am extremely proud. I feel that the bolter on this miniature really lets it down. My intention was to try out some NMM on the gold and silver parts, but I kept messing it up so much I just went back to plain old... well, MM I guess. At this point though it had got clumpy and I couldn't really do much without stripping the bolter, but I was scared to do so.

I would really appreciate some CC. As proud as I am about aspects of this mini I still feel like I've got a long way to go. And if anyone would like me to explain any of it then I would be more than happy to do so.

I've already learned a lot from the mini. A lot of the pooling at the top of the banner is because I had my paint brush loaded too much with paint while doing my shade. In the future I'm hoping to achieve much smoother results. I'm just looking for a nice posh way to base him now. Thanks for looking guys,

Kev

Fantastic work on the sword and cape! The face looks amazing as well

My only suggestion is to highlight him. I can't see any highlights.

Lost in the warp. Halp!

Fantastic work!

I agree -- do some highlights with the green sections. Anything with a corner or edge or bit that sticks out could get a thin layer of paint a few shades lighter than what you used. And your banner looks JUST FINE. I actually sort of like the pooling!

How did you do the dirt layer on the bottom of the cloak there? I am -very- interested to know how you did that.

Thank you so much for the kind words guys.

Regarding highlights, the camera doesn't pick it up well but the shoulders blend from a really dark green near the cloak to a lighter green at the corner. However the contrast is really wide, I think in the future I will try to push the contrast a little further to achieve more visible results.

@Candroth Regarding the muck at the bottom of the cloak, that was done using three layers, heavily thinned. The first two colours may be wrong, I have a terrible habit of forgetting to write down my schemes. But the technique is more important than the colours I think. Which was to keep my paints incredibly thin, and always pull my brush towards the bottom of the cloak so that the colour always builds most at the bottom, start with the lighter colour, then apply the mid colour a little lower and finally the darker colour closer to the bottom (which I recall in this case was P3 Bloodstone and only at the bottom of the back)

Hope this helps mate.

Ahh yes, now that I know what I'm looking for I see it. Nicely done.

I'll give your idea a try with my paint test model. Poor fether gets a new coat of paint every few weeks.

Great work overall, I would just say Highlight and fix up the base.

Yeah, I'm undecided on the base at the moment. I'm thinking of having him stood on some sort of slate that protrudes from the base slightly to give them impression that he is leading a charge. The pointing of his sword helps with that, I kind of imagine him to be screaming for a charge with hundred of miserable Dark Angels behind him in their robes! haha
