I played a game tonight at my FLGS, IG vs BA, I was IG. My opponent, a great guy who is a regular at the store, ran a great list and mine was cobbled together from shattered hopes and dreams, so I was sorta doomed from the start.

Some disagreement came up between my opponent and myself, the answers to which he read from the Throne of Skulls FAQ. The main one was assaulting my vendettas by simply being under the footprint, not actually being in contact with the base or hull. He said that since it is a GW tourney, the rules for it are also the rules for standard play. I disagreed, saying it was only rules for that tourney and nothing else unless actually put up as an official FAQ/Errata on the GW website.

Anyway, I simply moved out of the way of the Mephiston and got destroyed by a lascannon, then proceeded to have my army systematically pushed through a meat grinder. Not as fun a game as I would have liked, being shredded and all, but still a good experience. I just wanted to get the opinion of other players about the use of tourney FAQ for standard play.

Tournament FAQs only apply to that specific tournament.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

ToS has absolutely nothing whatsoever in a million years to do with actual rules

Their FAQ is their FAQ and their FAQ alone

Unless of course the TO has said that they are using the ToS FAQs

Which, given the state of some of the rulings, isnt the best idea.

Bearing in mind this was a pick up game....

If that were the case, that FAQ would also be up on the GW site with the rest of the official FAQs.

Tournament FAQs are only valid for the events for which they are used. They are not written by the studio, and have no official status outside of that event, unless other events or venues also choose to adopt them.

The ToS FAQ contradicts the official GW FAQ for reasons only the ToS Event Team know.

Ex-Mantic Rules Committees: Kings of War, Warpath
"The Emperor is obviously not a dictator, he's a couch."
Starbuck: "Why can't we use the starboard launch bays?"
Engineer: "Because it's a gift shop!"

Best to agree on such things before the models come out. In a tourney, in their rules, in a pick up game ask when you see models with a potential for discussion.

- Anything on a Flyer base.
- Psykers with more than one power per turn, stackable effects and/or shooting phase powers that are not PSAs.
- I'm sure there are others...

The only "hobby" GW is interested in is lining their pockets with your money.

We hadn't agreed to anything before hand, so I assumed it was going to be only website FAQ + BGB. It wasn't until after deployment and my first turn had started.

Mind you, if he had asked to use it as the rulings for the game, I probably would have said no anyway. I had never read it before and don't particularly like tourney FAQ's in regular play. It just struck me as odd that he was using them as canon for everything else.
