So lotsa peeps have been prophesizing that Daemons can stand a chance against grey knight armies if they "Khorne up"...to the best of my knowledge only the Blessing of the blood god is good against grey knight...i.e. 2++ against all those nasty force weapons...but correct me if i am wrong but does the dark excommunication still negate the blessing?...if so it would seem daemons have been made irrelevant in all tournament circles...thanks

Blessing is a gift, therefore dispellable. Not that much stuff has Excommunication though, so they would get a 2+ unless it Excommunication was used.

Exactly. Excommunication removes all Daemonic Gifts. BotBG is a Gift, ergo, it is removed.

As for how this affects Daemons competitively... it doesn't really.

Warp Quake affects Daemons. That's the only psychic power you should really have any sort of issue with.

Dark Ex is only found on (I believe) Dreadknights (which are largely viewed as uncompetitive) and Librarians (who have to buy it). Spending points on something that affects one army that you quite possibly will never face is not something competitive players don't usually do.

The funny thing is, you're more likely to see it used in a friendly game, for fluffy reasons.

Agreed. Your standard TAC GK list will actually be really bad against Daemons. GKs strength is killing Space Marines, not Daemons.

Coteaz has Hammerhand, Dark Excommunication, and Sanctuary. He can cast 2 powers a turn I believe, and is in almost every competetive GK list. GK with 3 Purifiers, Strike Squads, 3 dreads and Coteaz will be almost impossible to beat assuming they have max transports as well, and thats WITHOUT casting warp quake.

I dont understand why the GK book didnt include some buff for Daemons. If the GK book was supposed to be balanced, but also have a lot of additional rules versus daemons, then like the previous book Daemons should have gotten something too. Like the ability to deepstrike with no mishap due to the severity of the daemonic incursion, or start on the board, or if their second wave dies they can deepstrike it back on the table in the next round. Currently a lot of the GK rules are simply not fun for Daemons, and both players should always be able to have fun.

Devian ID...

my thoughts exactly...I have played three different GK lists...all with models that have dark ex...it is embarrassing to watch Coteaz, a S3 T3 model, walk through a group of bloodcrushers...In another game a squad of 8 paladins with a librarian walked through my entire army...etc...both players apologized after the game as they realized that it was really an exercise in futility for me...anyway...thanks folks...

Sorry to Resurrect this thread, but to beat dark excommuciation there are a few routes you can take.
first of all, librarians can take it, but rarely, ever in a tournament setting, or an all comers list will a librarian have dark ex, because it is a waste against 90% of the other armies.
Dreadknights have it, which are the scariest thing for daemon players. (unless you can charge it with 2 squads of bloodcrusher/bloodletters/princes, which I will explain later)
Also coteaz.
So only librarains(if they buy it), dreadknights, and coteaz.

1. Go tzeentch, just say screw it to melee, and outshoot them with horrors/flamers/princes/heralds. You can put out enough bolts to demech them, them flamer them and warpfire them to death. This would be absurdly hard to do, but I would try it if I had the models. You would just abandon melee and outshoot them with number of horrors and 3 princes. (no soulgrinder) You need the monstrous creatures to bypass their armor saves. Also, you could do 1 nurgle prince so its harder for them finish him off. I would advice fatewaever and 2 heralds of tzeentch, 6 squads horrors, 3 squads flamer, 3 princes, maybe 1 screamers, and then 2 HUGE hounds squads to tarpit the purifiers, strikes, and anything that doesnt have dark excommunication. This would be an extremely difficult army to play since you have no huge melee unit, which is what daemons do most reliably.

2. MSU, it may sound stupid. But dark excommunication comes on very few squads. Which I listed above. To thin the effects of dark excommunication, you go MSU with daemons. So 6 small squads of bloodletters, preferable 8. 3 squads of crushers. 3 Probably, or 2 squads and 1 fiends. Then some khorne hounds, though I dont suggest them for fighting anything but GK. So I say MSU because dark excommunication because he can only target 1 unit. So if you charge 1 dreadknight after it wipes a squad, you charge it from both side with crushers and a prince, he can only cast it on 1 of them. So, one squad is just attacking normal, with their statline, while the other is full strength. So you need to double or triple assault squads that have dark ex to reduce its effective, if its 1v1 you will lose the vast majority of the time.

Just my take, sorry to Resurrect, but you can beat GK with daemons. So far I am 4-1 against them, but the 1 loss I got demolished >.<
