Hey all,

I'm new to the game and after reading the codexs, and playing a couple games I've decided to work on blood angels. I wanted to start with 500 points. Here is what I was thinking (mainly because I could get most of it from a battleforce box).

HQ:
Librarian
Epistolary
Infernus Pistol
Blood Lance
Shield of Sanguinius

165

Troops
X5 Assault Marines
Sarge has PF
Melta Gun
Razorback (LC + TL PG)

190

X5 Death Company
Infernus Pistol
PF
Rhino

190

Total: 495

Any C & C would be awesome, thanks!

First of all, the last time I checked, 190+190+165 = 545. Without Epistolary it's 495.

I don't think the Death Company is a good idea. They can't control objectives and they can't assault out of the Rhino unless it hasn't moved that turn. You'd probably be better off using them as Assault Marines; can you make another Razorback out of their Rhino?

You are also wasting 65 points on Librarian upgrades. Epistolary is accomplishing almost nothing; you can use Shield on your opponent's turn and Blood Lance on your own without it. The Infernus Pistol is a waste because you can't shoot it and Blood Lance on the same turn. Obviously you need to cut it anyway to make 500 points.

So, I think you should run:

HQ: Librarian 100
TR: 5 Assault Marines, Meltagun, Power Fist, Las/Plas Razorback 190
TR: 5 Assault Marines, Meltagun, Power Fist, Las/Plas Razorback190

Total: 480

You can either keep the Infernus Pistol on the Librarian, in which case I'd suggest you take Shield and Sword or Shield and Fear of the Darkness. Or, give the Infernus Pistol to one of the Assault Squad Sergeants. Giving each Sergeant a Hand Flamer would be an option too. With the last 5 points, maybe a Dozer Blade on a Razorback.

Current Record: 5 Wins, 6 Draws, 3 Losses 2000 points

In Progress: 500 points

i agree, death company are not ideal at 500, personally i dont really like them, and when i do take them i take a squad of 6 that cost me 300 pts.

Gah, I was building the list on my ipad and it left a number out of the computation. I appreciate the feedback on the librarian. I like the idea of the two ASM squads in razors but I'm trying to build a 500 point army off of what I have plus a BA battleforce. Here's what I have.

BA Battleforce:
1 Rhino
10 Tac Squad
5 ASM Squad
5 DC

I also have these models that I could count as BA's from the AoBR set:

10 Tac Squad
5 Termies Squad
1 Dread
1 Captain

I also have the Razorback and the librarian. So yeah, I would rather not have to buy the extra sprues to convert the other Rhino to a Razor or buy another ASM squad. Any suggestions?

Well, it shouldn't be hard to use the DC as regular Assault Marines. Longer term, you'll want to turn those Tactical Marines into Assault Marines. It's mostly accepted that Assault Marines are always better than Tactical Marines in a Blood Angels army. You could also try them out. It looks okay given the options you have.

As for the Rhino, I'm at a bit of a loss. You could try getting by with an Assault Squad in the Rhino, but I don't see a good use for the extra points. Sadly, a lot of what you have simply isn't a good fit for a competitive army. Whatever you do, don't use the Captain as a Captain. Convert him to something else (like a Librarian) or keep him on the shelf. He's easily the worst non-Tycho HQ in the codex. The Tactical Terminators aren't good either; Assault Termies are better but probably best in a Stormraven list. If you do use the Tac Terminators, get them a Cyclone Launcher. It's kind of a shame that the Battleforce comes with so much less-than-useful stuff. Compared to the Orks Battleforce, for example, there's a low level of general utility.

It's really quite tough to put together a 500 point list, so don't get discouraged. I think the only decent way is either the dual Razorbacks idea I listed, or maybe two 10 man Assault Squads with a Meltagun and a Librarian with Wings. Having to spend 100+ on an HQ really makes it tough.

Yeah the hard thing, (due to the cost of putting an army together) is how best to start out with a 500 point force that I can slowly grow step by step into a 2500 ard boy 2012 list. I would like to slowly progress from 500 -> 750 -> 1000 -> 1500 -> 2000 -> 2500.

I was thumbing through the codex and realized I could make this list work points wise in 500.

HQ:
Librarian
Jump Pack
Blood Lance
Sanguine Sword/Unleash Rage

125

X5 ASM Meltabomb with Sergeant

105

X5 ASM Meltagun Razorback (Las/TL PG)

165

Brother Cabulo

105

The idea is to have the Librarian head up the jump ASM squad and have Brother Cabulo join the ASM squad in the Rhino to give them FNP?

Otherwise I'll probably go with the army you suggested with the the dual Razorbacks + Librarian.

C & C on the above army?

The army you suggest is okay. Corbulo is not the greatest, but you shouldn't get steamrollered. I guess it depends on how long you plan to wait to go up to 750, and whether you want to run a bunch of Razorbacks when you do.

Yeah the group I play with is pretty laid back so I may end up trying a couple of different things. I don't want to run a razor spam ba army though so I think that going up to 750 will be a furioso dreadnaught or something or a Baal predator, honestly I haven't really thought about it. I'm really a noob at this right now so any suggestions on army building or links to tactics are all appreciated.

your basement

If it's doa your lookig at then you'll need

Melta guns on assaults

Jp priests

Librarian with only a jp

For starts then work into vanguards at around 1.5k to 2.5k

That's what a standread doa template looks like

I'd advise something more like this:

HQ
Librarian (100)pts
-Fear of the Darkness, Unleash Rage

ELITES
Furioso Dreadnought (160)pts
-Pair of Blood Talons (free), Drop Pod (35)

TROOPS
Tactical Squad (154)pts
-4 Additional Marines (64), Flamer (free), Missile Launcher (free)

Tactical Squad (90)pts

Oh yeah, and Descent of Angels means that you may re-roll failed reserve rolls when Deep Striking, and only scatter D6".

Remember that DoA only applies to models with a Jump Pack.

The most recent suggested list is also illegal. You need to take 5 extra Marines to get special/heavy weapons in a Tac squad, which costs 170, not 154. Cutting the Drop Pod would free the extra points needed up, but I think that list is too slow and too short-ranged to be good. OP, you might want to try it, though, because I might be wrong, plus you'll get a feel for how important movement is. You have the models, after all.

I really like the idea of having a dread in a 500 point army but without some kinda transport or pod your just gonna march up the battle field and hope your opponnent doesn't pop your dread wide open. If he does all your gonna have is bolt guns and a force weapon on the Libby. All the list really doesn't have anything that can pop a vehicle or take care of anything that has a decent save (Termies).

I was reading about this guy Murph on Warseer who had this all DC army that he rolled face with as long as he didn't get an objective mission. I really want to mess around with some DC units. Especially at 500 points I love the idea of dropping a DC dread w/blood talons right behind a guy on the first turn. Here is a list I'll try.

HQ:
Librarian JP Blood Lance/Sword = 125

Troops:
X5 DC, Power Fist, Razorback (Las + TL PG): 215

X1 DC Dread w/ Blood Talons + Drop Pod = 160

500

The idea is to drop the dread on your opponent the first turn and pop smoke. He will forced to focus on the dread or suffer the consequences. That gives the DC in the RB a chance to move up and the Libby can give support where it is needed because of the JP. You still lack for scoring units though so you'll have to kill outright or hope the RB doesn't get annihilated.

you dont have a scoring army with that dc list ;x

also dont use tac marines convert into assault marines just though chainsword bolters on them. at 500 points you wont need melta guns krak nades ;D dont go by what jawaballs did. your list looks almost like his 500pt

i would do

hq-libby shield and unleashed rage-100

elites-2x priests-100

troops
5x asm with pf in razor back-145
5x asm with pf in razor back-145

thats 490 you can add melta bombs to each priest.

if that doesnt work for you

go doa

HQ-Libby with shield and wings-100

elites 2x priests jump packs-150

troops-
5x asm marines jump pack pf-125
5xasm marines jump pack pf-125

look something like that.

move the razors out libby will follow behind

After thinking about it I think that I will go with the following.

HQ:
Libby Pysch Powers Undetermined - 100

Elites:
Sanguinary Priest, MeltaBombs - 55

Troops:
X5 ASM, PF, Meltagun, RB (Las + TL PG) - 190

X5 ASM, PF, Handflamer, RB - 155

500

This way I'll have two full RBs and one of them has some serious firepower. I'm not sure which Pysch powers to take, any thoughts?

Shield and a close combat power. Probably Unleash Rage, although Sword is a nice option to bust a vehicle, especially if your opponent has a dreadnought.

Your most recent list is pretty good. If nothing else, you'll get to experience first-hand how crappy Heavy Bolters are. It seems like a rite of passage each Space Marine player has to go through.

If you can, take a TL-Heavy Flamer on the second Razorback instead. If you can't, you'll still do fine.

Yeah I like the idea of the Heavy Flamer, I'll try both.

The next step will be to grow the list to 1000, which I'm totally lost on where to begin. What are the must haves or the units that need to be added asap?

If you're going to be playing a mech list, you'll want either 3 Baal Predators or 3 regular Predators. I went with the regular Preds first. The drawback is that I went with HB sponsons on them because I didn't think I could fit the Lascannon sponsons in at 1000 points. I regret that; I'm going to have to figure out how to get the stupid things off my tanks now that I realize they suck.

Baals on the other hand don't need sponsons. I would suggest you first try them without at 1000 points. You could try something like the following list:

HQ: Librarian 100
EL: Sanguinary Priest with Meltabombs 55
TR: 5 Assault Marines with Meltagun, Meltabombs Las/Plas Razorback 170
TR: 5 Assault Marines with Meltagun, Meltabombs Las/Plas Razorback 170
TR: 5 Assault Marines with Flamer, Las/Plas Razorback 160
FA: Baal Predator 115
FA: Baal Predator 115
FA: Baal Predator 115

Total: 1000

Based on what you already have, you would need another Razorback, another Assault Squad, and the Baals.

Current Record: 5 Wins, 6 Draws, 3 Losses 2000 points

In Progress: 500 points
