Hi Dakka,
Just want your experience and opinions on whether this stuff works.
In recent years we have seen a wave of Hynotherapy Health Care Solutions.
- Quit Smoking
- Relaxation
- Memory Loss
and now...
- Weight Loss

I tried a round of hypnotherapy to try to cure my squemishness, and while I was very, very skeptical at first, it did appear to help for a long time, so I suppose it's certainly possible that this woman lost weight due to hypnosis.
Although I suppose this would be much more effective:

A friend of mine has quit smoking due to hypnotherapy sessions, so if it works for you, then go for it IMO. (however it is rather expensive for what it actually is)

This is also my belief.
First and foremost, you must possess and maintain and open mind. You must already be willing to do whatever Hypsnosis is being used to convince you of.
Building upon this, we assume that the fault lies within the individual. For whatever reason, be it weak mind/ lack of self-discipline/ chemical addiciton is preventing them from achieving their goal.
This is where the Hypnotist, a la Personal Trainer for the Mind, comes in and exchanges payment for their technique, despite the fact that this may not work, or may only be a short term solution until your "self-speak" over-rides it again. That is, until the individual slips back into their old ways.
Now, to combat this, you either require a complete paradigm shift, which hypnosis cannot provide, or repeated sessions with a hyno-therapist... forever.
Simply, I believe that it is up to the individual. If you rely on someone else, the change does not occur within, but from an external source, and is not permanent. You must be the one to change yourself, relying on others leads to dependency, which in reality results in the exchange of one costly addiction with another.

I did the hypnotherapy to quit smoking while it was offered free on base a few years back. It was really strange cause I walked out of there, tossed my pack of smokes in the trash and went on home. I had absolutely no desire for a cigarette whatsoever for a week, with no ill effects, then I guess it just wore off.
I had tried many different things to quit up until this point from cold turkey to weaning, patches, gums, lollipops, even snuff, but I never made it more than a few days and was always intolerably moody the entire time.
So yes, hypnotism absolutely CAN work, if you walk into it with an open mind. unfortunately it wears off

Perhaps it gives you enough time without the addiction/w/e to start to get into habits that would make it go away naturally? Say for instance the person needs to lose tens of pounds and gets therapie'd into wanting to exercise and eat right and gets into a routine so that they run a mile every morning and eat healthy so that it becomes habit. When the hypnosis wears off they still have the habits they formed while it was still in effect.
Maybe that's how its supposed to work? I have no idea, the idea of hypnosis bothers me so I'd never do it unless absolutely nothing else is working for whatever may be bothering me.
