Hey guys im trying to work out a good offensive IG command squad. My thoughts so far are: Straken, Lord Commissar, 2 Bodyguards, standard, 2 flamers, and a medic, and a CHimera for safe delivery. The bodyguards, Straken, and the COmmissar pack a helluva punch on the charge, flamers shoots right before charging, and the medic helps keep everyone in the fight. Im also thinking of attaching a Priest to make them even more scary on the charge.

I know its a big point sink, but it looks fun to try out

I will be honest, that is a really bad idea. You are free to try it, but there is not a "Best" load out for that squad, it will always be sub-par.
That being said, your's looks fine I guess.

That command squad is what, 230 points not counting the lord commissar? For 20 points less you can get five Ogryn and attach the lord commissar to them.

Thanks for your honesty; that being said, Im not going to actually use it in competitive play, Im just trying out different things =D

And for reference, for 400p your opponent has 10 hammernators, which proceed to destroy your entire unit while losing approximately 2 to your terrible command blob.

which is why you dont charge hammernators with guardsmen, even the command squad of doom; you shoot them to death =)

Its obviously not meant to be competitive even in the slightest, it's just absolutely hilarious to field. Plus, it does answer the best way to make an assault CCS, it may cost a lot, but it is effective to say the least with a significant number of power weapon attacks at various initiatives and strength.

That's the equivalent of giving your opponent the middle finger.

Well, you're going to want meltas to pop vehicles before assaulting, and at least one bodyguard to make sure the CO (straken or a PF commander) doesn't suck a demolisher shell and gets to swing at least once. For all his points though, straken isn't really game-changingly dangerous on his own.

Here's my loadout:

CCS:MGx4
-power fist
-body guard
-chimera

It's basically a melta CCS with a PF to shave the last wound off a monster or meqsquad in a pinch. I find it does the job thematically.

So let me get this straight; you want to take a 5-man, T3, 5+ save squad and equip them for, of all things, close combat? And on top of all that you want it to be effective? Not going to happen dude.

I think the best you can do is Straken, 2 x BG, medic and a LC w/ power weapon. Even then it's not very good, and costs a ton of points for the privilege of not being very good.

Try just using straken, possibly with a vox and a few flamers. Other upgrades I would consider but never use seriously: bodyguards, carapace, medikit, regimental standard. Maybe a priest at the utmost. But honestly anything more than just straken I don't think is a good idea. Even then, it's not a hammer assault unit, you want to keep it hidden but granting your infantry furious charge. Then let it out in counter-assault.

Hurr! Ogryn Bone 'Ead!

In my mech list I usually run them with 4 plasmaguns and a chimera.

I usually use them for a suicide unit. Since they are an HQ, they aren't a scoring unit, so I give the safer melta guns to the vets, who can actually hold objectives.

If I'm strapped for points I run them with melta, or add in a plasma pistol if I've got points to spare. But I try and avoid spending over 185 on a single squad.

Straken, bodyguards, carapace, medkit, standard. That's it.

Straken enhances your blobs, and he himself joins into a combat only when necessary and appropriate. He is a monstrous creature in HtH, cannot be singled out and can dump wounds on his bodyguard. While the CCS by itself is not a HtH beatstick like a unit of TWC, bloodcrushers, or Hammernators, it is MORE than capable of swinging the combat to the IGs' favor alongside a pile of guardsmen.
