The list is built around a hammer-and-the-anvil approach. The Russes, mechanized infantry and Vendettas will advance from turn 1 laying down fire and attempting to pin either the entire enemy force or a significant chunk of it into a corner. If timed correctly, the idea is to trap the enemy force between all the armour on one side, and the outflanking platoon with power weapons on the other side. The special weapons squad in the Valkyrie makes it a scoring vehicle, or they can be bailed out to engage targets after outflanking if necessary. And that's all there is to it.

Humm... not sure I would attack with a outflanking blob list, as I would be concerned that your facing 2-3 turns of fire on 1445pts worth of stuff and it will get it shot to peices. But your choice.

Not sure if the Astropath is needed, as you effectivily have 1 unit coming in. Platoons are considered collectivily a single unit for the force organization chart and for reserve rolls. So Al'Rahem, the two blobs, and the SWS all come in together on the same side at the same time.

Not sure if the Carapace is worth it either, but I can understand having points and not have anything to spend it on. But I think I would use those 20pts on Melta Bombs for the Sergeants in the blobs (4x Melta Bombs). If you still want the Carapace, I would drop the Plasma Pistols then for the Melta Bombs. I consider the Melta Bombs a must.

I wouldn't use heavy flamers on the Demolishers, though others love it. My feelings is that it is to short of a range and I would rather have the Heavy Bolter on it. Since I feel a Demolisher is a anti-infantry unit, I rather shoot infantry at longer range, specially if the cannon scatters.

Been playing 40k on and off since 89.

13 melta guns?! holy cow. i see the point for anti tank, but thats a lot of melta.

You do know that your pcs is only bs3 unlike the ccs thats bs4 right?

For raheems squad, i would put medic, all guys w lasgun and cc weapons, and make them cc. depending on who your v.sing flamers on blobs may not be best..a grenade launched would do better, or take another guy.

Have you considered a hvy weapons squad of 3 mortars?
first time i used them i killed 3 devistators, 2 sm's got 2 wounds on an hq term(forgot name) and killed 2 terminators > got more than quad what their worth.

To address all the points:

BlkTom,
1,445 points in a Guard list is more than enough target saturation in my opinion. 2 Vendettas, 2 Russes, and 4 Chimeras is plenty. I also understand that a platoon comes on collectively, but you still roll for which side each individual squad comes on from, which is why the Astropath is so necessary. He basically insures that everything arrives on the same side, and on the side that you want them to arrive on. You were correct in that the carapace is there just to fill in points, I had nothing else to throw them into and giving the plasmicide squad some survivability didn't seem like a bad idea. As for the Demolishers, I normally play against VERY aggressive people, so infantry always end up close to the Demolisher one way or another. This is the sole reason why I have the flamer template on those tanks, it always finds targets after moving up.

ImpGuardPanzies,
I am aware that the PCS is BS3, but the fact that Al'Rahem can issue Bring it Down makes it irresistible to me to max out plasma guns, it's not hard to score 4 hits with BS3 when you're twin-linked. A close combat loadout for Al'Rahem's squad would be interesting, but a 5-man squad at initiative 3 is probably going to die before it gets a chance to do anything. I would love to field heavy weapons squads, but they're a very static element in what is otherwise a very mobile list so I don't think it jives with what I was trying to accomplish.

I can see your point. I always used Al' because of his cc weapon that disregard toughnes value. However, in your case, you have enough power to take out any strong hq, mc, or weeklings that you feel like.

If you ever try the cc version of an Al' Raheem squad, I recomend using 1-2 infintry squads w/ power weapons. or just the squads. I saw your comanders w/ power swords, and it made me think of my tactic.

If you give your comanders a pistol and their sword you get 2 attacks in cc+his normal 1...and possibly one for assulting. combine this with any other power squad, and you suddenly have a potentiol 8pw attacks and 18 meatshields > I usualy blob in cc only. that way i can shoot at more targets when not in cc.

Either way..Al'Raheem is a boss. the meir idea that you can outflank half an army is overwhellming.
