I'm looking at Two Worlds for PS3, though Xbox owners are also welcome to comment on the game.

Anybody got any opinions on the game? Controls, story, character development etc?

I'm thinking of buying it but right now the game does not seem to justify the price on amazon uk. For reference I'm a great fan of RPGs and I really liked Demon's Souls

The speech is olde worlde so it's kinda hard to understand what they are saying if you don't pay attention.
The skills are hard to use, the magic is hard to understand.
There is no pointer to help you figure out where to go.

You might be able to guess i disliked it...
I heard the second one is/will be better.

First off, I loved the original game. Loved. It had a huge world, countless dungeons and quests, and no real helping hand (along with a ridiculous difficulty curve). It was not of course for everyone, compounded by poor voice acting, graphical glitches and a twisted mentality as to 'multiplayer'.

I was pretty excited when the second game came out, but have only been dissapointed as the strengths of the first game were systematically put aside. The game aludes to having a large game world, but does not as most of the map is unfinished and inaccessible. Furthermore access to each area is linear and slow. There are few quests and the interesting and large guilds, cities and world from the first game are often destroyed to make way for 'main quest improvements'. The main quest (which you could happily avoid in the first game if you wanted to, indefinitely) is the only way to open new areas in the second game, and after spending most of its' time on a single island hurries through small and unfinished areas to complete the story.

So, I have probably spent over 70 hours on the original game, but admit it is certainly 'broken' in many ways. I doubt I was able to spend more than 15 hours on the second game, even though I have completed every 'quest' and finished every 'guild'. Do not buy this game, is the bottom line.

Hope that helps.

Oh did I mention that the UK release of the game was delayed for over 6 months compared to mainland Europe and the US? The publisher (Topware Interactive) even restricted sales to only Amazon due to 'bad reviews' by multiple magazines/companies/websites based in England...

To quote the Channel 4 show, Peep Show: "I'm cancelling out of shame, like my subscription to White Dwarf"

Yeah helps a lot thanks. Decided to take the Witcher 2 over this now. Thanks for everything!

I'm a few hours into Two Worlds 2 and it's pretty decent. There are a few annoyances with the game that I need to note though

Firstoff, the enemy statbars are highly misleading. They'll say an enemy is strong against fire magics, or swords, or immune to stealth kills, and yet when you try hitting it with water or air magics, nothing happens. Then it turns out that fire is actually what it's weak against. The same goes for melee attacks, and I've had enemies that show an immunity to sneaking kills get shanked by my awesome dagger. So the game's UI is still very, very broken. As well, the game loves to crash from time to time when it gets a little too excited. To avoid this, you're forced to run it in DX10 mode instead. Though if you set the autosave to every 5 minutes, it's far less annoying. There's also no way to actually -stop- your horse whenever you want, and instead you're forced to run around in circles until it slows to a complete stop - something that can take a good extra minute, and causes no small amount of frustrated cursing.

That said, everything is way more streamlined and simple compared to the first game. The story is still awful, but at least it's original. There is a major loophole between game 1 and game 2, and the game world doesn't even -look- the same, so it's safe to say that TW2 is more of a new take on the franchise than an actual sequel. It's worth buying if it's on sale, but I wouldn't pay the full $50 for it until they fix most of the current problems.
