In your head, screwing with your thoughts...

I'm surprised I haven't seen any threads about this here. Perhaps they're simply buried and old news by now, I don't know. Anyway, I like the look of all the new models but I'd like to know what you all think of them (in terms of gameplay, not looks) before I consider buying any. How good are they? What niches do they fill? Have you used any in a game and if so how did they perform?

From what I can tell so far:

Scaverous, if you can keep him safe (medium based caster), is
an assassination machine by spell with telekinesis.

The only reason to take the revenant crew rifleman is to have
an even bigger tarpit unit than the standard.

Not sure about the Wraith Engine yet.

The Desecrator seems like a low powered Leviathan built to
work with Bane Thralls. Some may complain that this over-
leverages Bane Thralls in an army that doesn't need yet
another reason to field Bane Thralls, but I think I'd rather
have a Leviathan if I'm not running with Banes.

Scavs is Awesome for the very simple reason that Telekenesis is So Much Fun.

Erebus is alright. Seether that trades his Focus effeciancy for more defence/durability.

Malice is Reallly good. He's Scavs unofficial character jack IMHO due to how welll Scavs makes him and the Withershadow Combine work.

Not used the others yet.

Scaverous is just stupid good. Teleconesis is one of the few spells Cryx did not need. While keeping him alive on a medium base is more difficult he is a very versitile caster. You don't have to do an assassination run via magic, he can get it done in other ways.

Hey, I just met you,

Teleconesis is evil, the way you can move a model closer and then turn it so its rear arc is facing you making it easier to hit.

Used with Croe's Cutthroats and their backstrike it's evil against living models. They get 4d6 damage rolls!

Something that seems to be overlooked is icey grip. It prevents special attacks and gives -2 def. That's a pain for people who are counting on thersher or armour pericing attacks. Its a nice little upkeep spell

How about the Scavenger? And any opinions on the Wraith Engine in-game would be appreciated as well, as it looks amazing but the pricetag is pretty steep.

I've not got much experiance with the Wraith Engine. I've not used mine but i have played against it.

The guy using it ran it straight at my army and turned incorporeal. I just charged one of my warbeasts through it and he tried to free strike at it and became corporeal then was destroyed by the rest of the army in turn 2.

It's defence is just too low and too much dependance on soul tokens to work well. Any cryx player knows that you never really count on getting souls and this is counting on them.

The fact it's not able to have focus to boost or count as part of the battlegroup i think 9 points is too steep a cost to pay for it.

Its soul collection is more reliable than soul cages, however,
due to its CMD 10 and rather large base. The real issue is
possibly playing it in an environment where you're counting on
your enemy to provide the souls. You're going to be hosed
if you play a 'jack/construct heavy army or against the undead.

Or the Testament.

Quite so, and legion has a fair bit of souless stuff

That too.

Soul collection is one of the things that makes epic alexia iffy.

I've only played against it. That being said my opponent was being cautious and therefore didn't run it headlong into a unit. It killed the better half of a unit that was spread out and then he got a caster kill later that turn with an archode.

It definaity is not as broken as it looks on paper, that being said it still can be a real pain - like all battle engines they are not worth it in games under 50 points.

I can agree with that 50 points +

I only have Malice and the Revenant crew rifleman.

Malice is a great jack, good with several casters and more survivable than a regular Reaper. I haven't used the Revenant Rifleman yet.
