I was thinking Guardsman when I made him, but either is possible (all the plugs in the skin could be the remnants of the black carapace). My next may have started life as an Ork.

Thanks for the kind words.

I was pleasantly surprised with how the metal came out and had fun playing around with the weathering powders. I wasn't sure how stippling the paint on to show the remaining paint would work since it is a reverse of how the process is usually used, but I'm happy with it.

Every time I paint something I get the idea that, "This isn't bad, but what I should do NEXT time is . . ."

Great job on both flesh and metal. Pigments I've used before, but how did you find working with oils?

I mainly used the oils for the shading and highlighting on the skin and the exposed bones on the back. They were great for blending back and forth until I had the gradient I wanted (I put down a base of Tallarn Flesh and then went over it with oils without having to worry about the basecoat showing through since oils can get transparent). The main issue I had was the slow drying time. I was continually touching up places where I left a fingerprint in the oil paints or had brushed it and rubbed some off. Even after I had a coat of Dull Coat on, some of the paints weren't quite dry and rubbed off. You definitely need the patience to be willing to put the model down for a few days and let everything dry (I don't have this patience).

I have heard of water based oil paints that dry quicker and I may look into those next.

Looks good. The carapace came out especially well.
The head seems unfinished by comparison, the "bronze" trim especially. The crayola coloured liquid tubey things don't really work for me next to the nicely handled skin and metallics.

His left shoulder, pic on the left, under the carapace.

You're right on all counts. The mask I jusk kind of liked the look of the flat black, but it could use some shading. I've no excuse for the bronze.

The green is a bit more of a sickly pale green in person, the flash on the camera just made it seem a lot brighter.

Maybe work some verdigris into the bronze/copper area. I think the lacquered black mask look can work too.

Thanks for the info. I've been looking at a lot of military modeling resources, lately, and have been considering trying oils. I don't paint all that frequently and would likely only use them on HQ/display models and for vehicle weathering, so if drying time is the only real issue, they might be a good option.

This is a well thought out model. I love everything about it. I like the tattoo of the victim in the Cronos. Let's you know what happens to some of their prisoner. Great job.
