I'm going to be in a Warmachine tournament this weekend at my FLGS. I've never played in a Warmachine tournament (only ever played in 1 40k tourney), and I can count the number of Warmachine/Hordes games I've played on a single hand. My friend is going to be running my Khador (whom has less WM experience than I do). I'm "limited" on the models I can run. I would like to only run the models I have, but the store owner knows that I like my trolls, and has offered any of his trolls if I want them for the tournament (I will get at least one troll off of him most likely). The TO sent out an email to my buddy and I (because we're usually at the store to play 40k) saying it would be a 35 point Steamroller. I've started to look at the Steamroller rules on PP's website, but I would love Dakka's help on this.

List Number 1:
pMadrak
Troll Impaler
Troll Impaler
Dire Troll Mauler
Earthborn Dire Troll (Borrowing from Store Owner)
5 Man unit of Trollkin Champions
1 Unit of Whelps

Changes I would make to this list:
Drop an Impaler for one of the following changes:
1) Pick up a full unit of Krielstone Carrier and Stonescribes w/ Stone Scribe elder
2) Take away 2 Champions (for the 6 point unit) and get the Stonescribe unit above, as well as the Fell Caller

List Number 2:
pDoomie
Troll Impaler
Troll Impaler
Dire Troll Mauler
Earthborn Dire Troll
5 Man unit of Trollkin Champions
1 unit of Whelps.

My list is based around the models I currently own, and a need to not want to borrow the store owners entire Troll army . The problem with the changes to the list is that while I "know" (Read: Read these things on the internet) that the fell caller can be a great support choice to your army, I've never played with him. And while I've seen the Stonescribes in action, I've never played with them either (Simply against them).

In both lists drop an Impaler for the Krillstones + UA. They are really what make some troll lists shine.

I am suprised you don't have an Axer in either list - his animus is amazing.

I have an axer (bought the warpack) but he just hasn't shined in my games... In all honesty, its been the impalers and the mauler that has whooped some butt...

Second look: His animus is nice, and it would allow me to get my otherwise slower trolls into combat quicker...

Okay, so I went 0 and 2 in the tournament, losing narrowly when time was called just as my Dire Troll Mauler got into Close Combat with pVlad (my buddy was using my Khador and my list... I essentially lost to myself lol).

I've been thinking about several purchases to my trolls, thinking of things that worked well and worked not so well...

So I think I'm going to be going with Doomie (both Prime and Epic) with most of my battles. I like their feats, and abilities. So here are some more lists I'm toying with (and need to playtest).

List 1:

Mulg (I need to play a few games with him)
Krielstone Bearer and Stonescribes (full 6 man unit)
Stone Scribe Elder UA
Trollkin Champions (full 5 man unit)

2 "units" of whelps
I can add a Skinner, another "unit" of Whelps, or a Runeshaper

Krielstone Unit (same as above with UA)

And I can run variations of those with pDoomie for awhile...

I'm also curious about Fennblades, they seem like a decent unit, but I'm not sure.
