So, this is my first ever conversion. Im rather proud of the mini, but very dissapointed in the paint job. i just cant seem to get painting right. I water down my paints like i have been told, but then they really just dont cover properly and end up horribly streaky. It doesnt seem to work for me, is there something i am doing wrong?

anyway, here is the lord.

Like i said, i am horribly dissapointed in his paint job. im a very new player (i only have about 500 points for my own army at the moment) and i dont seem to be able to paint.

Nice conversions. as for the paint job, I dont think its as bad as you think it is, Do you apply ink washes while painting?

also, what color do you undercoat. Even though you are painting metal and its uaualy good to undercoat black for them, undercoating white is much better for bright colors.

I am undercoating my models black. and as someone whom i forget once said : "you are your own harshest critic"

undercoating white makes bright colors look better, especially non metallic ones. also, using ink washes will give some depth to alot of thos areas that look like flat color. It seems like you have washed his loin cloth.

im also pretty new to painting mind you, but when I have big areas of one color like his arms say, i would like to paint the bolts/studs whatever on his gauntlets metallic as well to give the mini some more detail. then highlight them with a brighter metal color. like dwarf bronze, washed black, highlited shining gold

Nice work, the painting is nowhere near as bad as you say either.
The problem with the thin paints not covering is overcome by putting on a couple or more coats until you cannot see through it anymore, i find a few thin coats always works better than one thick one, thats for sure.
Keep at it and eventually you will get to the stage where you feel happy with your finished paintjob, it took me ages until i was happy with mine.

Ummm...somewhere...

The painting isnt anywhere near as bad as you said, it's fine for table top and the model looks really awesome, where did you get those swords?

They aren't bad at all, painting only get better with practice. A few tips though:

Water your paints down till they run
Go back over a few times to patch up any mistake
Try and get a wash on every surface-trust me, this help massively with looks, washes are the lower-middle tier painters best friend.

Dont be so harsh on yourself. It lokos good, but maybe just need a little definition to make it pop,

What colour are you painting the armour?

The coverage on the armour itself looks pretty good (and the entire paint scheme is nice). Maybe try a purple or blue wash on the armour sections, folowed by a drybrush or highlight of a light shade of blue/purple paint. that woudl bring out the sharp edges of the armoru and add depth.

With the metalics. I tend to use the paint a little bit thickon metallics myself to make sure it covered well. If you want the metal to look just used/dirty then try a badab black wash + highlight. if you want it to loko rusted then try a devlan mud wash with a light stipple of blazing orange to make it look tarnished.

Overall i think it looks really good. Are you giving you whoel army those swords? They look funky and will definately make the army stand out.

The swords come from the tomb kings tomb guard, And on this guy im using them as a daemon weapon, so i dont know if using them throughout the army will cause confusion. My termi lord's daemon weapon was made out of tomb kings swords.

I actually have the idea now of spreading out a sort of Egyptian theme through the army, using tomb kings bits, but im worried that that may make my guys too much like the Thousand Sons. my fluff for my army is that they are an Emperor's Children warband, not a thousand sons
