Here are two lists I am thinking about doing, I was wondering which one you guys think would be more competitive. Both are going to take me Forever to finish, but i want to start preparing so I know what to get next. I already have most of the basic guardsmen.

Both are 2,000

Here is List One:

Company Command Squad (regimental standard, 1 Melta, Powerfist, Chimera w/ ML and HF) – 145

Veteran Squad (3 Meltaguns, Chimera w/ ML and HF)- 155
Veteran Squad (3 Meltaguns, Chimera w/ ML and HF) – 155
Veteran Squad (3 Meltaguns, Chimera w/ ML and HF) – 155
Veteran Squad (3 Meltaguns, Chimera w/ ML and HF) – 155
Veteran Squad (Plasma Pistol, 3 Plasma Guns, Chimera w/ ML and HF) – 180
Veteran Squad (PowerFist, Heavy Flamer, 2 Flamers, Chimera w/ ML and HF) – 170

Vendetta Gunship – 130
Vendetta Gunship – 130
Vendetta Gunship – 130

Leman Russ Demolisher – 165

Veteran Squad One (3 Meltaguns)-100[in vendetta]
Veteran Squad Two (3 Meltaguns)-100[in vendetta]

Vendetta-130

I think both of them seem pretty simple, what do you guys think? What needs to be changed, are these armies too competitive or not competitive enough.

basically you wont be needing this as you already have 7 chimeras with heavy flamers + a lot of lasguns.

Company Command Squad (regimental standard, 1 Melta, Powerfist, Chimera w/ ML and HF) – 145

I don't know why you want to make a 5 man assault squad out of your CCS. I'd suggest just take some special weapons and shoot instead of trying to assault.

every other thing is the same as other mechvet lists.

Both are pretty cool and really you just need wargear sorting. Like in the mech list CCS should have max special weapons and all the same. Plasma unit doesn't really need plasma pistol and the flamer unit doesn't need a fist as would have taken a battering before it strikes and heavy flamer is a complete rip off.

Second list you don't need fists again and you want autocannons and HWT for long range weaponry - just don't get HWT in Al Platoon . Also meltaguns don't go in Vendettas because the Vendetta has to move forward to get the meltas into range which means the 'Detta isn't shooting full fire power.

Thanks for the pointers. I am always scared of hoard lists so try to pack some flamers, but you are right the first list doesn't need them due to the chimeras with HFs for free! Is it worthwhile for me to put PF on any of the Vet squads? I placed the plasma pistol just since i had 10 points to spare at the end of the list. The CCS is really just assembled the way it currently is now, but i can always mix and match, so that should be loaded up with melta as well.

@mercer: So what would be best to place in Vendettas for my second list? plasma? Or is it better just to get Valkyries instead?

I assumed I had enough long rang weapons in the second list due to 9 autocannons and 6 missile launchers just in heavy weapon teams, along with the 12 melta, and two vendettas. Should I take more?

I can see why fists aren't needed, I guess I just like modeling them , would it be better to keep my PCS bare? I can load them up with special weapons, but would rather they performed as solely handing out orders to the blob squads and the heavy weapon teams.

I'm a fan of the first list.

You have a fethton of mobile scoring units and can roast hoards.
You have 3 Leman Russes (Russi?). And I LOVE TANKS.
You have an abundance of anti-armor.

1. Your CCS is trying to fill too many roles. Ditch the standard and the fist. Give everyone there plasma. Throw in a medic. (x3 plasma guns, plasma pistol commander, medic.) Now your CCS is a mankiller, and a mobile one at that. you have a 1/18 chance of losing a soldier every time he fires plasma thanks to the medic, an improvement from a 1/9.
2. Take the plasma from your vets and settle for meltas.
3. As mentioned before, you've got more fire than the Sisters of Battle. Ditch the flamers and the fist. More meltas!
4. Use these extra points to take an executioner or two with plasma sponsons. That's your Achilles heel at this point: MEQ. Dealing with MEQ will be the biggest problem imo, you've got hoards and armor down between your TL las spam and plethora of HFs. If you need extra points, you can probably lose one or two vet chimeras and put those vets in a Vendetta.

How's that?

I like both lists concept wise.

There are only 3-4 Guard units that want to get in CC, and one of them is a power blob. Ogryns, Rough Riders, and Penal Legion (2/3s the time) are the only other ones.

I have to agree on the first one ditch the Standard and the Fist. Don't waste the BS 4 with flamers, go meltas or plasmas.

As for your second list, unless your outflanking the Vendettas, I am not sure you need the Astropath. I say this due to the fact your only outflanking 1 unit (I feel anything less than 3 units is a waste for a Astropath) and you have empty special weapon slots.

Just keep in mind that a empty special weapon slot is a wasted slot. You can't go wrong with Meltas. Even a GL is better than nothing... and I hate GLs.

Good luck!

If you want Vendettas they need to stay back and shoot. For 130 points they're the cheapest lascannons in the codex and twin-linked. You need them shooting and not transporting. If you want to transport meltas then Valkyrie works very well. The old trick of turbo boost first turn in the scout move, then next turn bail out and unleash melta works well. With a Valkyrie you can move 12" and fire everything and if you blow up a transport drop down some anti troop fire with multi laser and missile pods
