Does anyone know how or if you can get your hands on the type of scenery that they have in a lot of the army books. In particular I'm thinking of the lion themed stuff from the High Elves army book.
Is it the sort of stuff you would need to try and make yourself, because I'm still getting the hang of painting minis let alone modelling my own scenery....?

I don't know the particular piece your talking about but I doubt you can buy it.
Here is pretty much all the scenery GW makes:

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

A lot of it is custom made by their studio. It's not too hard when you sit down and really think about how to build some of it with some plasticard and patience.

There are, however, a lot of companies out there that make Fantasy terrain. Some of it is fantastic, some of it is average, so you need to filter through the everything until you find what you like.

Personally, I want some of tabletop worlds stuff, but man it's expensive. Still though, two or three peices should fill out a table nicely with some addes hills.

Pray that some terrain pieces are finally released, but GW is still reluctant to sell the obviously needed (and already sculpted) models.
BTW if you are interested in terrain, play Warhammer Online: best source for ideas.

Currently, Gale Force 9 and Escenorama do nice High Elf terrain.
