So this past weekend was WAR Games Con here in Austin, Texas and I decided to break out my old Craftworld Eldar. I know my way around the army and don't really lose my feel for them. So with that in mind, I played a total of 0 practice games with this army, or with Eldar at all. This is the list I took:

Great report so far. Kinda shocked you opponent rolled up so far with his Land Raider knowing you had 2 squads of Fire Dragons to come in from Reserves. Makes life much easier when 400-500 points can get wiped in a single turn.

As far as your list goes I like it. You could have added 2 more vehilces here and there but you have the units required to win games with some pretty big punch.

Yeah, it's probably a hold over from 4th ed but I really love those larger Bladestorm squads. Combined with Doom and there still isn't much they can't mess up.

Nice use of Eldrad in Game 2. He can be quite a resilient piece to drop when Fortuned.

Terrain seems to have had a significant change to the typical Alpha strike armies, such as an IG gunline. Definitely makes me happy to see tourneys doing this to bring some balance to games.

I think you played the games very well. I can learn some things here i think.

I think the new FAQ will make things like 'Grav Chute' cease to work. When a vehicle is destroyed, all of its special rules/abilities are gone as well. I would think that includes Grav Chute.

I logically agree that they shouldn't work, but the inat specifically says that they do. At least for now.

There was only about a 1/100 chance of it mattering, and it didn't.

But good game and nice to meet you. One of many challenging opponents I had, well worth the 16 hour drive.

Yeah, definitely a challenging game! Thanks for it! And congrats on 2nd Best General! You must have wrecked everyone but me!

This is why I hate Army Builder and the way it lumps transports in with troop choices. My wife had the same scoring problem since she's unfamiliar with the rules for scenarios. Of course in those "kill the least expensive" things, one of the transports will [usually, Eldar and tau might differ a bit] be the cheapest UNIT on the board. But that can be hard to spot when its 35-55 point cost is lumped in with the squad for a troops choice totalling 150 points or so.

And yeah my first game I went 26, our game, 30, 17, 15, 30, 30. Not as many big wins as some people, just putting points up every round.

I'm looking forward to your last round opponent, he's a buddy of mine that drove down with us.

Well played game three. Daemons struggle against mobile, weight of fire mech lists like mechdar. Well played on reserving and then alpha striking him.

the mech IG is pretty brutal, lists like those are why I prefer 3 dragonwagons and 2 fire prisms, but your army handled it well none the less.

Yeah that Game 7 was a killer match.

I should have looked at my IG Codex before posting that, it's just hard to read things like that off Army Builder, I'll take that part off.

Thanks for sharing these, it seems like WarGamesCon was a lot of fun. Eldar have always been my nemesis as an army, I lost my first game of 40k to them and I continue to do so.

How did he come in at all on Turn 2 with his reserves? From the picture it looks like you moved out of the way for him or did he blast/ram his way on?

Also, the commenter on your blog was right. You must have 3 special weapons in each SWS squad.

The pic of him coming on is from Turn 3, he was able to come in with some stuff turn 2 because I could only cover about 2/3 of the board edge.

Yeah, that was just a typo on my part, they had 3 each. Glad you like the blog and the BRs. You may get to feature in one sometime soon, I'm moving to Portland in August, and definitely plan on going to Knightfall.

Very cool. I recommend ordofanaticus.com for info about the Portland/Vancouver scene. It is a lot of fun out here; I'm sure you will enjoy it.
