Fluff Wise, have any groups of Orks beat the "Pious Ultramarines"? If not in the fluff do you think it is likely To Happen OR Unlikely?

I can't remember having read about this in studio material - but I could see it happen. I don't think it would be "likely", just "possible".

That goes for any Space Marine Chapter, though: They're incredibly tough and most often only fight where (a) there is no alternative to making a stand or (b) victory is guaranteed. Plus I don't see the Astartes deploying against Orks that often. For some reason, I always imagined Ork Waaaghs to be too numerous on a galactic scale, thus usually dealt with by the IG [insert "waves upon waves" joke here].

Any force in 40k can theoretically be overcome by any other, save for a full-blown Hive Fleet assault which is the only thing I'd pretty much deem invulnerable (necessitating "preemptive action"). The setting is surprisingly balanced in that regard.

Define a full-blown Hive Fleet assault. I can give you numerous examples of Hive Fleets that have been destroyed, and tendrils that have been crushed on the surface.

Destroyed by conventional warfare, not apocalyptic doomsday devices just blowing up the planets? Okay, then perhaps my perception is a bit flawed in that aspect - I just have that "unstoppable juggernaut" image in my mind. Taking back that part then.

Marines never lose.. everyone knows that

Occasionally they have a company or so go awol to hawaii and become lost..

Orks can and do beat SM, but as the fluff is written by SM...

At the height of his power, fighting alongside one of the most powerful Primarchs, the Imperial forces were so overrun that the Emperor himself was nearly killed by an Orc Warboss.

But the Ultramarines, never!

Orks and Ultramarines aren't typically in the same regions of space, so it doesn't come up much.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I think the Ultra's 'official enemy' is the Nids.

Wasn't there a "Tyrranic war veteran' model for them a while back?

Ya ork do fight Ultra there's the arch-archanist of chandra or something it's right by ultramar space. They launch a WAAAGH! into the ultramarines every so often, they do take a couple of planets but always those planets are recapture by the smurfs.

I tried being normal but it's boring so now I'm back to being insane

The Arch Arsonist of Charadon. He's also the Warboss who fethed up the Crimson Fists.

It may be a different Ork, as each successive Warboss of the region takes the same title.

Arch-Arsenist of Charadon - the title given to the current Ork Warlord in charge of that Waaagh!. So far that Waaagh! has been kept in check but as the nids invade more Ultramar space the Orks are gaining ground (citing ork dex here).

The next 40k video game is going to be "space marines" and is about smurfs vs oorks, the orks take a forgeworld and the smurfs are trying to take it back.

so there will be ultra vs ork goodness... but expect the boys in blue to win because it is a video game so the orks have to be the bad guy, and good guys have to be at the bad... I'd love to play that as the ork though wiping out the smurfs and keeping the planet for my waaaagggh!

Even better, you used to be able to take a whole unit of Tyrannic War Veterans. IIRC it was in the 4th ed SM codex.

I think that unless the orks are tearing up real important turf SM don't get involved. A WAAAGGGHH eventually turns on itself anyway doesn't it?

usually a waaaagh only stops when the warboss is defeated that is when the nobs start fighting over power, sometimes one nob rises to power as a new warboss, other times they break up, but while the warboss lives a waaagh does not just break up and turn on itself. don't get me wrong, orks fight for power btu not like political fighting with debate instead its chop da guy up front if you dare and if you don't get chopped down you da boss

Ugh, I am really starting to hate that man.

Anyway, sure, it can happen. Don't think it has happened yet.

Hell, Calgar has defended against Waaaghs! solo.

Ork attack on Boros. Orks had them on the ropes, out of the whole company none were uninjured and less than 20 could actually fight. Librarian Tigurius was in command. Then the Legion of the Damned rocked up to save the mutha frakin day.

So without the boys in black, the Ultras would have been (and up till that point were) squig food.
