Safe Guys!

I have a tau army, with no kroot in it. The first two turns go well, but after that it kinda fizzles out. I was thinking i should get a couple kroot squads or one with krootox, just so I've go something to get in the way and give my fire warriors a bit longer. Well as far as i know there pretty crappy, but then i see something i don't understand every day on this site.

the idea was that i have the kroot either protecting the fire warriors (incase of deep striking units and whatever) or the classic operation human shield. it would be great to hear what people who fight kroot think as well.

Sound.

kroot are awesome and whats more no one will expect you to take them thus making them think your some kind of tactical genius for using them and thus concede

I have them out flank and sit on an OBJ or harass a long shot unit

meatshield.

Grounded FW's are only good for markerlight and maybe an objective holder, but at way more points for far fewer bodies they wont last for beans under fire.

FW's for scoring need to be in fish. Kroot can be much cheaper on the ground and hold fairly well. Neither is gonna get your massed kills, your suits and railgun heavies are for that.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Kroot play a very important role in the Tau army, absorbing (and dying to) assaults. I would deffinately get a couple squads, and use them to buffer your more important units. I recommend just 2 squads, starting with min sized of kroot, and then start filling up on hounds because they're cheaper. You really just want bodies in there so the cheaper the better. Stay away from Krootox and Shapers and any upgrades, keep them cheap so you can invest more points into units that actually do the killing (Suits).

Sometimes, you just gotta take something cause the model is freakin cool...

Kroot blobs can be useful. If the enemy is assult heavy (so like 99.9% of the time) you can have the kroot guard the good units For the Greater Good.

Against Gunline (.1%) you can go Genestealer and catch them off gaurd with assault.

Fourthing that you should include kroot.

I disagree with bringing kroot hounds, though. Kroot can be effective in CC, but they are super fragile, low leadership, and mediocre on initiative. Even if they inflict a lot of wounds, they will typically lose an assault by dying in droves, and then fail morale and get swept. Spending more points on stuff like hounds gives you some cheaper wounds to soak up attacks, but that's irrelevant if you can't make your morale check.

I always bring two minimum size squads with no upgrades, and they have always been useful.
