I play steel legion IG mech (of course cuz its steel legion) and here is my proposed 750 point army.

Veteran squad w/: carapace armor, grenade launcher, missile launcher, and chimera.....................................................................................................175

Veteran squad w/: carapace armor, grenade launcher, missile launcher, and chimera.....................................................................................................175

Leman russ w/: lascannon, and bolter sponsons......................................185

Command squad w/: carapace armor.........................................................70

The ashen specter (marbo)........................................................................65

Armored sentinel w/: smoke launchers and lascannon..............................80

Was wondering if I should change any thing (like take a chimera for the command squad instead of the sentinel(but i am planning to have commissar yarrick with another chimera so am wondering if its worth it))

Please post any suggestions!!!!

PS how is this steel legion (it looks like a guy with a big mustache to me)

The meaning of victory is not merely to defeat your enemy but destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavors, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory.

There are ways to streamline this list

Drop carapace and the missile on the vet squads, swap their grenade launcher for melta or plasma. Gives them more mobility and greatly enhances their firepower. Drop Carapace on the command and equip them also with plasma/melta and get them a chimera, I'd drop the sentinel to do so since an 80 point lascannon doesnt hold well for me. Drop HB sponsons on the russ or swap it for hydras for anti transport firepower.

Keep in mind that the steel legion don't have all of the assault weapons and i'm not very good at greenstuffing and that the missles come with the sl squads and i'm kinda down on cash to buy a couple extra squads to fill their place but thanks for the advice!!

also my primary enemy will be tau space marines orks and other IG

I kind of like the carapace because it protects the vets from bolter pulse rifle gauss gun etc.

The wargear is all wrong in this list. Carapace armour is too expensive, you just have to suck it up that Guardsmen will die. The Chimeras will only be firing bunkers as cannot move and shoot with the missile launchers, really should have mass special weapons.

Leman Russ with the lascannon is the wrong points, it's 165, and I would take te lascannon as it's expensive.

CCS should have make plasma guns.

If you take away carapace, don't add anything. On first glance it looks good but in reality it sucks for mech vets as they ride around in a tank most of the time. As for the mass special weapons, just use the missle crew to proxy them. I've never had a problem amongst my group of friends doing this. Best way to run the russ is in its basic form, so just a HB front weapon, as this way it can keep up with the vets to give support.

Just my 2 cents

Cruising in my CRASSUS ARMORED ASSAULT TRANSPORT

Well, with most mech armies, they rely on durable, dangerous, and very expensive vehicles and mobile infantry (not the ones from SST). This makes them more suited for a larger army size where they have room to grow. I don't know much about steel legion, but one thing that i do know is that carapace armour is very expensive, and if you fail an armour save while wearing it, that's many points going down the drain. I don't have a guard codex, but I do know that the most basic infantry are very cheap, so maybe purchase a couple of squads as objective holders or meat shields for stronger stuff.
Do what you think feels right, and test out your troops before commiting to them permanently.
If this is a tournament army, then make sure everything is legal, too.

I guarantee you that I'm not really as smart as the test says:

@ killy kave kommando, about the basic infantry, they must be taken as a platoon with 2 squads and a command squad so with lower point armies its not economic to use them as mech.
