Ok guys and girls , I need some help with making a actual list for Imperial Guard which is my next army i am starting.
Things that i want and dont want are as follows:
Want:
Not to many men ( Painting hundreds of men to fill companies is not my strong point)
Tanks ( I love the tanks, all of them the more merrier in my eyes)

Dont want:
To much men

I haven't gave this a lot of thought as you can see but after playing Spaces Wolves for a year I'm getting quite bored of hoe Space Marines play and would like something different.

So from what i have seen i think i should go Mech Guard as i like the Tanks

Any help would be great as i haven't even started to buy anything yet

Company Command Squad (4 Melta, Chimera w/ ML and HF) – 145

Veteran Squad (3 Meltaguns, Chimera w/ ML and HF)- 155
Veteran Squad (3 Meltaguns, Chimera w/ ML and HF) – 155

Veteran Squad (3 Meltaguns, Chimera w/ ML and HF) – 155
Veteran Squad (3 Plasma Guns, Chimera w/ ML and HF) – 170
Veteran Squad (flamer Chimera w/ ML and HF) – 130

Vendetta Gunship – 130
Vendetta Gunship – 130

Leman Russ Demolisher – 165
Leman Russ Executioner – 190

That should be a 2000 point list.

6th vet squad seems kinda useless IMO. I'm also not a huge fan of the heavy support choices.

In my mind your best plan is to buy the codex and see what you like, rather than get other people to make a list for you. If I was to use this list, I would switch out all the russes for the basic one, saving 95pts, and drop the 6th vet squad, another 130pts. I'd add in an OotF to the command squad, and then a PBS to use the elites spots (PBS in a chimera of course)

Just my 2 cents

I have the Codex in front of me. I like having loads of tanks i know it would be not objective game worthy or any scenario worthy but i want like a tank squadron, i was just wondering if any one was thinking the same as me and has made or is thinking of a tank strong army not just Chimera's

I am currently building a mech list, because i have a footsloggin list and now want mech capabilities.

the one i am building is

HQ: CCS GL,GL,GL

Troops: Vet PG, PG, Flamer
Vet Melta, Melta, Flamer
Vet PG,PG, GL
Vet Melta, Flamer, GL

Chimera X4 all with Hunter Killer missiles

Fast Attack: Devil Dog with Heavy Flamer

Heavy Support: LRBT LC, PC, HK
LRBT LC, PC, HK
LR Demolisher LC, PC, HK

This is 1500

Problems with the list: dont own enough Plasma Guns/Meltas yet, will eventually take out flamers and Grenade Launchers once i get more. Need another Chimera for my CCS. Alot of people dont like Hunter Killer Missiles, but in this list i get 7 S8 unlimited range krak missiles on turn 1, I usually kill/seriously disable something with them and I really like that. Not that many troops, but 4 troop choices at 1500 is ok, just gotta be sure to effectively use cover.

Strategy: I have a pretty simple strategy associated with this list, have my chimera's and demolisher advance towards the enemy and once the chimeras get their payload into an effective range, unload their guys so the plasmas and meltas can rip stuff up(also, the demolisher puts out S10 ap2 pie plates!). While the chimera's/demolisher advance my LRBT's advance slowly behind the front line and shoot at the enemies heavies. I also like the devil dog, because it often gets overlooked because it isnt that many points and it looks like a chimera , but my opponents often overlook its heavy flamer and melta cannon, which puts out a small blast of S8 AP1, which can be really mean against termies, vehicles, or anything else. Use the Demolisher and Devil dog to protect those chimera's weak sides!

With this list, watch out for players with LOTS of anti tank(long fangs, things with lots of lascannons, tau with lots of broadsides, or anything else with lots of anti heavy...)

You can replace the devil dog with carapace armour if you want a more surviveable vet squad, and if you are playing against a hoard, give all of the non special weapon vets shotguns!!!

this is my tank/ heavy 1500 IG list, not perfect but i like it

I basically tailored this list to my usual opponents, Tau and CSM, both of which only have 1 heavy vehicle at the 1500 level, so the LRBT's take the single vehicle on in turn 1 while the rest advance(those Hunter Killer missiles are also used here to make sure i take out that heavy), and then after this, the entire list is going to tear things up with the 3 pie plates, lots of low AP fire, and flamers/Heavy bolters on the chimeras.

Mech IG is easy to build, easy to play, and very forgiving. Down side is its not light on the wallet and will become boring

If you want to keep your list competitive, keep your units trim and free of unnecessary upgrades. You want to max out your melta/plasma in each of your units. Load everything in a chimera. Fill up your fast, there your most point effective units in the codex. Then 2-3 heavies, depending on your point total. If you want peoples opinions on what exact units you should be running you are going to have a heavy debate, as it seems few can agree on what is the best units in the codex. But if you scan the 18billion IG lists posted you will soon figure out who knows what there talking about and the ones that purely theory craft with out ever playing a game.

There is an article (by Polonius I believe) about the Imperial guard codex units, read it and it might help you choose which tanks are good.

Take CCS with the advisors and some special weapons and place them in chimera

pretty solid HQ, not that expensive, the advisors are really good. Can do things like call in artillery, make enemy reserves harder to bring in and other cool things

My list for mech guard is allmost exactly the same as Sagehearts, so i would go with that.

you can run an HQ and 2 vet squads and nine Russ if you really really just gotta have that many tanks.

Of course, that's about all you;ll get at 1850points.
