Hi Dakka!

This IS a rant, so if you don't care for such things I guess you better not read further!

I don't know if any of the UK community on here are planning to go to October ToS, but basically the whole thing has been a bit of a shambles. They've oversold it, and are now asking players to go to a "second" event a week later. It's really frustrating, as I don't know if i'll be one of the people who has to move or not. My holidays are fixed, and I won't be able to go to the second week if my ticket gets moved. WHat further pisses me off, is that the GW staff don't really seem to know what is happening either - one staff member said the tickets don't get sent out till the week before. I'm sorry, but given the fact that we won't know which event we are going to until we get our ticket, that's just not good enough.

On top of THAT, I was discussing this with a friend in store today, and a staff member sauntered up to me, to say "I'd appreciate it if you moved this chat outside." At this point I was more than a little annoyed. I wasn't being abusive, I wasn't swearing, AND I had just purchased something. I feel I was well withing my rights to discuss this, so I turned my attentions to the staff member, and asked him to explain why he wanted me to leave, as this was a valid point of discussion. He said "it's not our problem, you just have to deal with it". I understand that these things happen, but the fact that they don't seem to give a crap is really offensive. They are happy to take your money, but when it comes to getting it right, they just don't seem to care.

Any other UK members had this issue for this event? Is this a common occurrence in the US?

If they can't run the event on the day advertised, simply ask for a refund.

Should have asked for a refund for what you bought.

Your real problem was assuming GW cared at all. They dont.

Hope more old fools come to their senses and start giving you their money instead of those Union Jack Blood suckers...

Getting a refund isn't ideal if you've booked time off work specifically for it.

As for the behaviour in store, they are GW, you shouldn't have such high expectations.

It's not about the refund, it's about wanting to go on the date that was advertised. It's a complete joke.

Throne of Skulls IIRC

Anyway after the Olympics shambles this doesn't surprise me Really you can only wait for your ticket and see what date you're given. And the staff member should eat a sock for telling you to take matters "outside". Freedom of Speech good sir, make it known.

Write to GW headquarters asking for a refund and explaining how angry you are that they have oversold the event and can't guarantee your booking.

With luck you might get a ticket for the day you want and some loot.

Don't get mad. Don't get even. Get ahead.

I really couldn't say. I have never even heard of the throne of skulls event, had to read the replies to the thread to know what it is. I have never heard of any oversold conventions or events though.
Most of us in the US don't live anywhere near a gw store but I've heard they are just as bad, if not worse in the UK.

The Throne of Skulls sounds like a fething joke anyway, so I'm not surprised by this behavior. They clearly don't care if they can't even be arsed to run a real tournament.

And yeah, that sounds like complete bs, after just buying product from the store you were being asked to leave because you dared to be slightly critical of an event you paid good money to attend, and might not actually get to attend because of their shenanigans? I'd have told the guy to piss off and written someone at GW corporate about it. Not that they'd do a damn thing about it, probably might even defend that behavior since obviously GW can do no wrong, but still.

They oversold the 40k Doubles in February as well. Although I wasn't playing in it, I was playing at WHW that day. Funnily enough it was store staff that told me it had been oversold.

Given who's in charge of WHW now, can't say I'm surprised by the store staff attitude.

Two issues:

ToS: do as KK suggests if you can not be sure you will be able to make said event. Doen'y sound like it will be a great loss if it is being run as we hear.

Store treatment: Unfortunately a storeholder is well within his right to ask you to leave for any reason. You suggest he wasn't rude about it. If you were annoyed about ToS then the very least I would suggest that you were at least being a bit distracting to others (prehaps a little above normal converstaion levels/jesticulating) since you managed to attract the managers attention. Storm in a teacup really.
