Has anyone ever wondered what the MOST EXPENSIVE UNIT IN THE GAME is?

Obviously not including Apocalypse, because one can just make their own custom models...

The best I've got (with the only codex I know well enough) is a 'nilla SM:

Terminator Squad 200
+ 5 extra Terminators 200
+ 2x Assault Cannon 60
+ 10x Chainfist 50
+ Land Raider 250
+ Storm Bolter 10
+ HK missile 10
+ MM 10
+ extra armour 15

All that comes up to 805 points, for a single unit without any ICs.

Can any other codex beat it? It'd be pretty cool if you could have 1 unit over 1000 points!

Blood Angels tend to do well in these sort of things.

30 Death Company with Jump Packs and dual-wielding Thunderhammers + Lemartes is 3000 pts on the point.

Don't have the codex to hand but GK paladins maybe? They were pushing 500 points for 5 when I made a list up.

Not really. Paladins with all the toys stop somewhere in the mid-700 point range. Vanilla Marine Vanguard can beat that (again, nothing like dual-wielding Thunderhammers to drive up costs) with a maximum cost of about 950 or so. Blood Angels Vanguard buying a Landraider with all the toys instead of Jump Packs can probably also break the 1000 pt. mark.

What about xeno races? Or can non-apoc giant nids not break the mark?

I remember there was a thread exactly like this a while back. Think it was either BA death company as above that won, or an IG unit, probably mech.

Mech IG ceases to be a single unit. I can't be bothered to dig out the calculator at the moment but it looks like a maxed out combined squad (five squads with all upgrades) would top out at 900 points. 30-man death company is 600 points before equipment. Jump packs add 450 and they're already beating the Guard before you even arm them. Blood Angels can even beat IG in the most expensive FOC contest using the special character who removes the 0-1 restriction on death company.

So what's the cheapest unit in the game? I've seen a few at 50 points, but I can't think of anything that can be taken as a unit by itself that is cheaper. (But I only play Marines, so I don't have a lot of experience here...)

I believe GK's can take 3 scoring bodies for something like 12 points. (Scoring if you take coteaz)

Well if you are going to include dedicated transports, I guess you are really talking about 1 slot, right?

Because Marneus + full squad of honor guard with a banner, grenade launchers and relic blades, plus a fully-kitted razorback will cost you a shade over 1000 points.

Yep, because one huge, lightning tipped, solid chunk of admantium just doesn't cut it for these guys.

I played against a Marine player in a tournament who fielded a 10 man Vanguard Veteran squad with lightning claws in a rhino. The unit came out to be at least 600 points. I shot their rhino with an autocannon then killed the entire squad with a battle cannon, and to date that is probably the most expensive unit I've ever encountered in one game.

add most expensive (for orks, other armies have us beat)...

10 ork nob bikers 1 upgrade to painboy biker w/ ordely ion a trycycle) 9 power claws 9 cybork bodies kombi scorchas x 9 and waaagh banners x 9

totals 935 points

To sum it up, Orks can do the lowest point army and BA can do the highest point army within the FoC.

The ork army is two squads of minimum grots and a big mek.

BA take Astroth and as many dual thunderhammer jump pack DC as they can.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The DC squad is 2790 pts for 30 DC all with jump packs and dual hammers.

Chaos Spawn is 40pts too.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Smallest points of legal troop choice (without characters unlocking them) goes to the humble nurglings. It's less than 40 pts for a full unit. 2 units of them, plus a herald makes 128pts. Fully legal. Smallest, I believe.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I think the farsight bomb is the most expensive in the game when maxed out for price.

"AM are bunch of half human-half robot monkeys who keep tech working by punching it with a wrench And their tech is so sophisticated that you could never get it wrapped it out" thing a LITTLE to seriously. It also goes "Tau tech is so awesome I wish I was Tau and not some stupid Human" thing.

As others have said, BA DC squads can be the most expensive. It's not even close.

Smallest is an interesting question... GK can do Coteaz and 2 squads of 3 warrior acolytes. 124 point legal army. Not sure if any other legal dex can top that.

Totally forgot about astro, yeah thats the topper I think with Fsight in second. Fsight goes over 1k with fireknife and markerlight drones. Totally maxed i think he could get up to 1500 ish
