Hypothetically, if Logan Grimnar was to die in battle what Wolf Lord would you guys think would be elected to be the next Great Wolf. I know that in the codex it us suggested that Ragnar Blackmane might be.
If that was the case would ragnar's company become Space Wolves 1st company and the Wolf Guard that replaced Logan as Wolf Lord in his company be the wolf lord of the what company?

I am writing a story for my space wolves company and i want to be as accurate as possible in my what if ascension.

Ragnar is not the default succesor. It is said that if he were to get more experience (and doesn't get killed in the process, that is) he would surely make for a great Great Wolf. But if Logan were to die tomorrow it would be a tough decision between several contesters.

Besides, remember that the succesor is chosen via runes tossing and consulting with the Wolf Priests. If it happens to be a tie then the issue is settled with a duel.

by rune tossing, are you referring to when the current 12 wolf lords vote, by tossing the name runes into the dragon's skull?

Also are the 12 companies numbered at all, i know the black slab of stone is referred to as the 13th company. Would Logan's be 1st company?

There is not First Company or whatever. There is Logan's Company, Rganar's Comany, Gunnars' Company and so on. 13th company is used to number the one apart of the current 12 that were lost in the warp chasing Chaos Scum during the Scouring. Curiously this is the only one with a fixed number. This black slab is also used to remember the other companies that broke oaths with the Great Wolf of the time and left the Chapter to continue their service to the Emperor in their own way.

And the Wolf Lords don't vote. The Rune Priests gather and begin some rituals involving rune tossing and when a result is achieved it is communicated to the Wolf Lords and to the Chapter.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

the companies bear the name of their current Wolf Lord.

the 13th is special because they have no contact with the chapter and it isn't known who their Wolf Lord is(if they even have one)

Ragnar is the obvious choice for sheer awsomeness, but the other Wolf Lords have seniority and experience on their side. Ragnar would have to become even more awsome to win the vote of the others.

now if a tie happened between him and another wolf lord, Ragnar would likely win.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Like others have said - it has been stated that Ragnar would one day make a great Great Wolf, but he is still massively inexperienced when compared to the other Lords.

Canis isn't a Wolf Lord.
Ragnar has been mentioned as the default successor and obvious choice out of all the Wold Lords. However he has a few anger problems so he need to hang around a while longer to temper that...
Erik Morkai is a good choice IMO
