You like the 40k fluff? Have a ton of 40k models? Are you a gaming voyeur? Prefer the WarMachine and Hords rule set? Then come join us!

The Team has a site up on Obsidian Portal. Come check us out, leave some sensational comments, and maybe a few ideas. We appreciate your support (its free but inspirational!).
So far we have major conversion notes on the process (transparency!), stats for nearly every model/codex we have a current book for, weapons, and a nice interactive area for posts/forums.

A 40k to WM/H conversion is an interesting concept. I think the best way to approach this is to rather than convert entire armies to a WM/H compatible ruleset, I think you’d be better off converting individual 40k units for use as mercenaries/minions with existing WM/H armies. Treating 40k like mercenaries means you don’t have to convert entire codices but rather key units (tacticals, terminators etc). Approaching the system like this would be the easiest way to incorporate 40k into WM/H. Playtesting would be a lot more accurate as units would be play tested against actual WM/H models rather than counterpart homebrew forces. I’m recommending you avoid special characters for now and focus strictly on converting the core 40k troop choices into WM/H rules (SM tacticals, CSM, Necron Warriors, Ork Boyz etc). I’ve got some ideas regarding what 40k factions could be used with what WM/H force. SM=Cygnar IG=Khador Orks=Skorne/Trollbloods Tyranids=Hordes? GK=Protectorate Eldar=Retribution Chaos=Cryx

Nah, DE and Necrons would be Cryx. Chaos and Tyranids would be more for that kinda deamon-y Warmahordes faction- they actually have what's basically a Tyranid Carnifex already.
Flash Gitz would be Mercs, definitely, bein' da Freebooteriest of da lot.
And Sisters would be with the Protectorate too- maybe even IG with them, because of the whole "Worship of Man" thing they have going. Heck, they both have Living Saints even.

Daemonish Faction? Are you referring to Legion of Everblight? That’s something that crossed my mind when I was thinking about Chaos. Chaos is actually hard to squeeze into a WM/H faction as different units fit into different factions Perhaps Chaos units should be segmented according to which Chaos God they follow. Nurgle=Legion of Everblight Khorne=Skorne Tzeentch=? Slaanesh=? Undivided/Renegades=? I reckon Tyranids would probably work for a number of Hordes factions as they wouldn’t care who wins, as long as they get to “om nom nom” stuff. Imperial Guard are interesting as Vostroyons, Valhallans and Steel Legion are very Khadorish. The “emperor worshiping” aspect of IG prefers Protectorate yet the “Military Nation” aspect prefers Khador. I went with Khador because the IG tabletop rules seems to favour the “Military Nation” aspect more. With Protectorate also getting Sisters, it would be a little unfair if they got IG as well.

Yeah, Everblight. If you look at some of their models, they already have Tyranids among them.
Slaanesh would probably go well with them as well- I seem to recall some rather, sinuous looking creatures among them...
Poor Scyra. They just get the Panzeez.

We are approaching the conversion with a formulaic method. So, we've developed a few dozen formulas for the stat lines, ranged and CC weapons and abilities. Using our lovely spreadsheets and some light data entry, every book has been converted! Well except Blood Angels and Grey Knights (i have not yet purchased those codices). Check our lovely little section of the web out. I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas.
http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/warmachine-40-000
As far as factioning and mercs, we've decidedly decided that we will not mix the two universes. 40k should be way more powerful than WarMachine and Hordes. If we tried to mix the two and keep the 40k fluff, even dragons would be DOOMED!
The guiding principles are:
1.) Love of, and honor to, the 40k fluff
2.) The preference for the WarMachine and Hordes rules
3.) Adherence to the established methods and rule/ability pallet of WarMachine and Hordes.
4.) Consistent and reproducible method of conversion.
Hopefully that clarifies the project and sparks some ideas. Check out the site!!!
