What kind of army would you like next for Imperial Guard?

For example: Mordians = pre WW1 Germans, Tallarn = Arabians, Valhallans = Soviets, Krieg = WW1 Germans, Preatorians = late 19'th century British...
I would like some army like WW 2 Japanese, Civil War era US North Army and my country post WW 2 army ( Yugoslavian National Army ).

For Emperor and Imperium!!!!

On moon miranda.

Personally, I'd really rather avoid anything more modern looking than the current Cadians, especially anything tied to the imagery of a modern active military force or something in recent memory, for several reasons. First, it really doesn't help the immersion factor at all, especially with most IG stuff being very first/second world war based so it's all history anyway for anyone who is playing the game. Second, you start to bring active world events and politics into a game that has no business doing so, and third, because I'd really rather not have a bunch of Call of Duty wannabes starting IG for that force. IG army themes tend to be exaggerated and distorted, and doing so to a current and active real world force also probably isn't something that needs to be done. (I really don't want to see armies sporting giant american flag iconography and endless "america...**** yeah" replays, which, lets be honest, you'd get *that* guy in just about every store at that point)

For example: Mordians = pre WW1 Germans, Tallarn = Arabians, Valhallans = Soviets, Krieg = WW1 Germans, Preatorians = late 19'th century British...

Actually the Mordians are based primarily off of various dress uniforms, but especially US marines. Tallarn is primarily Lawrence of Arabia/British in the North Africa aside from Captain Al'rahem, The Krieg unifroms actually are more based on the WW1 French uniform than the German one aside from the helmet/backpack/gasmask.

It's really difficult to do a new force based on anything recent that either already hasn't been done, isn't entirely appropriate, or that wouldn't tread on sensitive stereotypes.

That said, something along the lines of the Savlar Chem Dogs being drugged up hive gangers, or do something like mad max style IG A female or mix-gender regiment would be cool as long as the uniform isn't just there to cover up naughty bits and actually looks functional. There could be a monastic themed regiment raised from Ministorum worlds, or something that brings back the look of the old RT era Imperial Army troops, that sorta 80's scifi look.

Japanese is a good call but I'd want then to be Samurai-types rather than WW2.

Interwar France might be nice, though DKoK already wear French-style helmets and greatcoats.

Always been a fan of this style.

This, I think, could be done to shore up the Elysian range a bit more. Add some bulky armor bits and voila--'techy' and 'modern', but still generic.

If they do a "new line of Praetorians" or Mordians or any of those forms of 'formal dress armies' I'd rather see them done up like the Vostroyans.

Vostroyans look formal, but also practical. That's important.

A plastic line of Vostroyans would be sweet. If they made battle forces of them instead of Catachans(cadians are the generic imperial force, they will always be there) I would be a happy man.

Mind you, I love the catachans, but would rather field vostroyans.

Tanith would be cool. Only problem I see with that is they are a 'liberated army', meaning that any new recruits are from world saved by the 1st and only. A vast spectrum of uniforms and tactics are going to appear in such an army, so the 1st and Only are best represented by anybody who builds an army list to need instead of look.

They've got too many types of IG models already, they need to support them better. I'd like to see a plastic kit based on vostroyans, but with a variety of different styles of guns and heads (so you could theoretically make some less fancy looking soldiers, like that "athonian tunnel rat" or the first picture posted by Kanluwen)

I think that a regiment styled after the uniforms of the American Civil War could have potential, or an Ottoman Empire circa WWI. Those are things that I would like, though. Not sure how much general appeal that they would have. Failing that, I'd like to see the old IG Stormtrooper aesthetic explored with a full miniatures range.

Looking through my library of military history in my basement, I found a book with some really great drawings of old uniforms/soldiers. Here is a list of some of the armies I think would be great based on their entry in my tome here.

Zulu-yang to the Preatorians' yin
Ancient Chinese-think 'terra-cotta army'
Scottish Highlanders-as a model, make it catachans in kilts
Samurai/Ninja-they could be 1 regiment with the ninjas filling the slot of stormtroopers or something
US WWII army uniforms-not in the book but would be a fun paint job
Aztec-very colorful, lots of feathers and gold
Vikings-SW have their own, but the guard should have some norse too

There are more, but these are the main ones I think would be really cool to model/paint.

Personally I'd rather see plastic support for all of the existing IG lines instead of anything new. I mean with Cadians, Catchans, Preatorians, Tallarn, Mordians, Steel Legion, Kriegers, Vostroyans, etc. out there do we really *need* yet another IG force?? Add in Elysians and you've got like 10 different guard forces out there already.

I think the best thing, for me, would be *interchangable* plastics for all of the existing IG forces, which you can then use to mix and match and create your own "perfect" IG army. I would happily buy plastic vostroyans or preatorians for a new IG army and would love to get my hands on plastic tallarns to add renegades to my various chaos armies.

Had to edit to add this in: And PLEASE(!!!!!!) redo the catchan plastics so they actually look even close to being really human instead of every trooper having upper arms that are 12+" around...oi...do the catachans take steroids much?? I could see maybe the heavies having bulging muscles from carting around the heavy weapons on the move, but otherwise a jungle fighting force should be lean, tight and mean, not big, massive and bulky.

If GW were to ask me, I'd like to see the current ranges continue, but I'd like to see add on sprues that would allow you to take upper torsos without armor, rebreathers, gasmasks, ruck sacks, web gear, and different weapons system. All that is needed is to add to what is there. Catachan legs, for example, are excellent; just create another sprue with fully shirted torsos and new heads without headbands and mohawks.
You could make enough bits to make cadians appear as Salvo chemdogs, krieg, steel legion, or even karskins, etc.

This is a good idea, with some different heads you could make one sprue suffice for feral world guardsmen and Savlar-type penal regiments, for instance.

This could totally replace orgryns or something in our elite choices perhaps add a 5+ invulnerable to represent their speed with the blade (only in close combat)
Plastic kit could be built with robes or some samurai new age armor . Even chick heads and torso's for those that mentioned something like that above. As i agree we already have a lot. of choices for our normal infantry. Plastic kits all together for your exotic models.

Ha the more I think about this elite unit the more i want it

I like "WANAX" idea for what GW charges for 10 x Guardsman, An extra convertion sprue could Jazz them up, enable more variety.

A selection of backpacks ... rations, ammo, tech/power cells, jerry can-water...

Heads with- dessert hats, jungle hats, knit hats,...

Additional legs - kneeling, crawling, jumping/climbing, running/charging... not walking slowly(have thows already)

I'd like to see plastics of:

2) Carapace armored Imperial Guard with hotshot lasguns and bits to turn them into stormtroopers, veterans or adeptus arbites

3) Plastic greatcoats of some kind

4) Any Forgeworld guard

5) Lord Solar Macharius stuff

Pretty much this. They already have a large variety of troops and despite my love of IG I'd want to see more variety in the other races before I'd want to see new IG troop variations.

What they need to do imo is release the metal casts such as Vostroyan Firstborn in plastic. It's just too expensive (at least for me) to make your entire army out of these special figures. Cheap (for GW) release of these would have a profound impact on the aesthetics of IG armies.
