Heya,

As my IG are now finished I'm throwing around a few ideas on what to collect next. I decided that I'd like a Marine army (so I actually get a chance to make some armour saves!) and I'd also like to focus more upon CC than shooting. Blood Angels seemed like a natural choice and I got to work writing out an army list. I wanted to avoid Razorback/AV13 spam as those styles don't really come across as particularly Blood Angels to me. Here's what I came up with:

HQ

Reclusiarch
130

ELITES

Sangunary Priest (3)
- power weapon
65 (195)

TROOPS

Assault Sqd (9) x 3
- thunder hammer
- melta gun
- Rhino
227 (681)

Death Company (7)
- thunder hammer
- 2 x power weapons
- Rhino
250

DC Dreadnought
- blood talons
- drop pod
160

HEAVY SUPPORT

Stormraven
- TL-MM, TL-LC, extra armour
215

TOTAL = 1631

The whole army has FC + FNP which, when coupled with fast Rhinos, will ensure that I get in my opponent's face ASAP. The DC Dread drops down Turn 1 and puts immediate pressure on the enemy battle-line as, left unchecked, it will happily melta open tanks and then demolish the contents with the talons. The Stormraven is there primarily as fire support, but can also be used to pick up any Sqds that get de-meched early on. Having the entire army benefiting from FC and FNP pretty much doubles both their survivability and lethality in combat. With the army being quite small, refused flank tactics are the order of the day.

I do have just over 100pts left to play around with and am not sure where best to put the points. The army evidently lacks ranged tank-busting, but the smattering of thunder hammers coupled with S5 on the charge should be able to do work on the low rear AV of most vehicles. I was considering either one 2-man, or two 1-man units of MM attack bikes to help with the ranged vehicle popping. Alternatively a small unit of Scouts to sit on a home objective and keep their heads down wouldn't go amiss, and they can always hoof it into the Stormraven should they become threatened.

What do you guys think?

Interesting list.

a few points, the DC dread should ride n the stormraven, or put a furioso in there.

The Sangunary Priest's should be left stock, they die way too easily, so do not bother with the power weapons.

Death company are great, but very tricky to use correctly.

I find a librarian is way more valuable than his points cost. the ability to negate psychic powers is needed, and shield of sanguinius gives cover to your advancing army, while Unleashed Rage is usually better than the reclusiarch's liturgies of blood.

I have never had a lone dread that I drop in first turn survive to get the assault off. when I use two dreads in pods lancing the first turn I usually get one in to assault, but not all the time. YMMV though.

Thanks for the reply.

The Priests are expensive, and due to the relatively small size of the squad will almost always see combat. As they strike at WS, S and I 5 on the charge I reasoned that a p. weapon would, at the very least, allow them to cause 2-3 casualties before any retaliatory swings hit.

I opted to put the DC Dread in the pod because I need the Stormraven to be shooting, which it can't do when flying across the board for the first two turns. The pod also allows Turn 1 pressure on the opponent which, when coupled with the 'none shall stay my wrath' rule forces the player to dedicate fire to the Dread, which is fire not dedicated at the far squishier Rhinos.

I went for a Reclusiarch purely to buff the DC. The Librarian doesn't really fit in the list, as all the transports in which he'd be useful are full, and he's a bit of a wuss in CC. Smoke launchers should be able to provide me with the turn of cover I'll need before disgorging the Assault Sqds, so SoS isn't that much use.

I hope this makes a few of my choices a little clearer. If you have any ideas on where to apportion the remainder of my points I'd be pleased to hear it =)
