New XCOM game will be FPS.

The reason for this?

And I quote!

"Strategy games aren't of this time"

That's why everyone and their mothers buy X-com the first chance they get....

Seriously, I work at a general goods store, we had a bunch of X-coms Triple Packs lying around, so we put them on sale for $5.

I totally was like "OMG X-COM GOTS TO HAVE!!!!!" (read in whiny voice of fan-girl for this fan boy's outcry) but we aren't allowed to hold merchandise for ourselves.

There were a good twenty of them, but by the time I got around to them, they were all gone

Soladrin's quoting skills are haphazard, at best.

The jist of what 2k Games has been saying is that there isn't much demand for the kind of strategy game that X-Com was. They'd either have to take the Dragon Age/ Mass Effect approach, creating a blend of tactical and RPG elements.

Rather than do that, they opted to do a FPS. It's not what diehard X-Com fans want, but it will likely get more attention in the market due to the setting/content than another DA/ME styled game would.

As long as they don't make it CoD VS SPEHSS! I'm open to it, at least...

Borderlands was a terrible game and 2k needs to die for it.

Seriously though, you can't blame the overall gaming corporation(2k, EA, Activision) for the quality of the games they produce because it boils down to the actual producers(Gearbox, Volition, Pandemic, Treyarch). If the producers have fun making a game then it will usually be a good quality game, the people making Borderlands had fun as evidenced by the characters and bits of the narration.

Sarcasm detector might be broken, but I personally loved Borderlands.

Well, except that my family didn't pick it up until I was level 61 with three Pearls, and Xbox Kids were bloody annoying...

That was a direct quote from a dutch gaming magazine. So not my mistake there.

Bioshock I would say remedy's any angst from Borderlands in my opinion.
And yes, you most certainly can blame the publisher for bad quality games.

Isn't this kind of old news? I thought they first announced it to be an FPS like a year ago.

Honestly, I don't know what they are thinking about strategy games not being of this time. Listen to the 'Three Moves Ahead' Podcast and they discuss about plenty of strategy games that are being released.

Borderlands, fun but not great.

Bioshock however is crap (IMHO) I'd rather just pop system shock in again.

Also, they aren't even in the same type of game. Borderlands has a standard leveling system, proper loot system, CO-OP and more.

Bioshock has... a huge rip off factor.

I'm not comparing the features of the two games. I hated Borderlands, Bioshock is my favorite game. In my opinion, being one of the most widely acclaimed titles ever produced, Bioshock balances the scales quite considerably. I like Bioshock for the story and setting, I don't care much for it's features, although they were great.

Borderlands is a great game. What other FPS has an achievement for killing an enemy by jumping on its head?

That and the random weapons are really awesome, exploding shotgun, shotgun with a scope, etc, etc.

Wow I havent seen any Xcom talk for like a year now. As one mentioned the new game was already announced as a pulpy government agent vs aliens FPS instead of the sci fi strategy game everyone body associated with

That was a lot of rage back then

Really? I'm gonna love playing Fox Mulder the Video Game Sure it should have a different title instead of the company heartlessly capitalizing on brand recognition, but Fox Mulder is awesome.

Oh god, there was nothing better than running around with a Full Auto Missle Launcher, "FF Heals Allies", constant ammo regen, regen health, sheilds, and ammo on kill. XD

Still, Not looking forward to X-com, I'll probably have to play it since my brother LOVES X-com, but meh, I can already tell I'm p[roabably going to hate this new one more than the original.

2K has balls, got to give them that, though. Not many studios would pick up Duke Nukem and then release a title that deviantial in quality.
