Hi,
i was hoping you could clarify some things for me (and yes, the book is "old", but im just now catching up on HH ^^):

- So..the cultists still were the "bad guys", and they wanted to free their master from his mortal shackles to set him free in the warp once more, right? (the one in the end)

- In the end, Zahariel sits there and "knows" the name of the evil that plagues caliban etc. That whole ending sounds like "there is background you should know" or "things still coming, just you wait!". Which one is it? I haven't read the DA Books yet, so maybe i don't get it because its mentioned there? Am i missing an obvious connection here? :S

- Why is the Lion calling Perturabo "cousin", i thought the Primarchs are supposed to be "Brothers"?

- Did anyone ever consider that the calibanite part of the DA were sent back to save the planet because the Lion knew of the taint? Because they seem a bit whiny about being left behind to me, but they never think that he wants them to find the answer and bolter the crap out of them demons. Instead, they just jump to the worst logical conclusion: That they were sent back to be cleansed with the planet when it'll be bombarded. But why would the Lion leave the book(s) (aka knowledge they so value) behind with Cypher..why name the Knight who "knows" Lord Cypher?
I think that
a) they were supposed to figure it out themselves and save caliban or
b) Lord Cypher was supposed to be in charge of doing all that and decided to not save caliban (or the DA) for funsies (maybe because his whole order was wiped out?). Sounds more reasonable to me than the Lion "loosing faith in his knights somewhere along the way *add Remiel tear here*" ^^

For the record, i dont like the Lion But i dont think that he had this evil masterplan that Luther "figured out".

The lion sent them back to caliban because he sensed something wrong after the failed assassination attempt. I think he saw it in Luther and Zahariel's eyes. (my opinion)

But Zahariel AND the Cabal stated that the people or Caliban were not tainted (due to the efforts of the cabal and the locations of the beasts). The flaw in Luther was just "human" in my oppinion : )

what happened, IMO, was that the "Cultists" were actually early imperial deamonhunters who had discovered the source of the taint and were trying to remove it from Caliban.

Zahariel discloses this in the last line from the book.

paraphrased "I knew the truth, and it was too terrible for Luther to know. the cultists hadn't been attempting to summon the creature. they were trying to send it back"

But he also describes them as "looking like corpses", and they did summon a demon and just left him there at this "small" power plant.
I think they tried to do their masters bidding and free him, since he tries to bribe Luther and Zahariel into finally releasing him from his mortal bonds because he was there for such a long time, so he promised them "presents" and whatnot : )
Imo the cultists were his minions that have been promised similar compensation for their efforts. This would also go along with the last line there i think

Are there paradigms of demonhunters sacrificing like the lower half of a hive city just to get one(admittedly big ass) demon? O.O

the current inquisition will gladly sacrifice a hive city to get rid of a greater daemon.

of course, 'Sacrifice' isn't the right word for what they do now. if removing the daemon requires millions of people to die so that billions will live then its ok.

these earlier daemon hunters didn't have such scruples about using the more occult methods of removing the daemon(human sacrifice and blasphomous rituals)

There's nothing to support that position in the book.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

There's also nothing to support that they were trying to summon it, outside of the accusations of the pro-Caliban Independence insurgency which consisted of former Knights and other nobility who'd been dispossessed when the Imperium moved in.

They did a chaos ritual. Then daemons appeared. Sure, one might not cause the second, but it sure seems close enough.

There's nothing saying a ritual was done to summon them.
The 'worms' that you're referring to as Daemons were mentioned as having been on Caliban before, just not in the size that the Astartes encountered them towards the end of "Fallen Angels".
