As much as i initially hated the new talos, it has quickly become one of my favorite de models. But i understand that they are too slow to contribute much to a normal de list. So i am looking into a webway portwl list. How does this look for the core:

The portal carriers
3x haemonculus: liquifier, portal
3x 4 wracks
3x venom

The screen
3x 3 reavers: blaster

The whole point of the list
2x talos : flails, haywires
1x cronos: probe, vortex

If memory serves, this is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1100-1200 points. Depending on the points level, the remaining points would be spent on stuff to pop out of the portal. Mostly wyches, maybe one unit of incubi, maybe one unit of trueborn with blasters.

Is this overkill on the delivery system? Would i be better off with two portals instead of three? Maybe beef up the reaver-screen a bit?

I think it's pretty interesting. Just remember to get your Haemonculus to join a unit (if they survive) to give pain tokens to other units, also taking the ones from the Wracks. Just remember to add another splinter cannon on the Venoms

Have you thought of Beastmasters? They could completement the Talos in close combat and be a royal pain in the arse, plus from the portal they have a massive 24" possible assault range.

The debate between two portals vs. three portals is a serious one (I'm just glad I'm not having to explain to you why you should take more than one)

My basic thought process is this;

If you take Baron Sathy - 2 portals.
If you don't - 3 portals.

So you look to be in the right ballpark for my money.

The biggest 'meh' I have with your list is the RJBs - I don't think they're going to give you the right bang for your buck - because the optimal goal is to already have the creamy nougat filling of the infantry cracked out of their hard candy shells of vehicles by the time your Talos lumber out of the portals.

Now, I hardly claim to be brilliant in the setup of WWP armies, but I have been toying with them, and as a consideration here's what I start on the board;

3 Trueblasters in Venoms (2 Haems here)
1 Ravager w. FF

So that's 4 vehicles to start - and I'm immediately pressing the anti-mech angle with 12+ dark matter shots on turn 1. The point is to shake up and weaken any mech out there so that by the time my portals pop open and my Talos, Wyches, and Beastmaster units rumble out they have a lot of infantry to tear into.

Your current collection of Wracks in Venoms is affordable - but their primary targets will be pretty much the same as everything coming out of the portals, which is unoptimal.

Hmm. Very good points.

I knew anti-vehicle was going to be my weakness. Never thought about starting the trueborn on the table. So if i take a ravager, what's going to serve me better 2 talos or 1 and a cronos?

Only reason i don't have beastmasters is that i don't like metal models.

The reavers are there as flying cover for the venoms. Guess i don't really need them?

Get the reavers to blade vane as that will quickly scare your opponent into firing on them and so the rest of the army can advance from the webway portal try bringing out some scourges as they can take out tanks while the rest of the army eats the terrified infantry

Matt Ward declared death pit on the Eldar god Khaine. To celebrate his victory he held the most awesome party ever and all the Eldar were invited. The intense pleasure from the orgy with him spawned Slannesh, created the Eye of Terror and destroyed the Eldar empire. Their last words were, "worth it."

So spread the word, and beware of Matt Ward for he can Death Pit at any time.

I wouldn't feel married to my method. I personally run 2 Talos, but it's not uncommon that I feel it would be nice to be generating more pain tokens. It's a value call that I don't think I have perfect awareness of the optimal choice.

So...what, turn 1 to get a cover save if you don't go first?
By the end of Turn 1 you probably should have dropped down 1-2 portals - and at that point the gain of the RJBs is fairly negligible to my mind. I'd even run Trueblasters in Venoms and use them to shield the Wrack Venoms over choosing to run RJBs for what little defensive gain they offer since they provide no real offensive gain worthy of their points.
