I am about to move to Vancouver for grad-school and was looking for pointers on where to play. I'll be living on Broadway just south of Granville Island.

My approach to the game is not very competitive with more of an emphasis on the total gaming experience (well painted models, good terrain, fluff, having a laid back fun time!).

Where should I go?

You can come down to the connections on Mondays starting at about 5-6 or Saturdays all day. I am down almost every Monday and the occasional Saturday.

Its about 5 stops south on the Canada line sky train from the Broadway station. You can check them out on there website, just type the connection games into google. Also there is a forum we use just to communicate what days we are comming down but you gotta type the connections games forum into google to get there, its not linked off their main site for whatever reason.

Of course this is for 40k, not sure if you meant 40k or not. If looking for fantasy there are some guys that pop in here from time to time but rarely when we are here, maybe they have a different day set up, you can call the store and ask what the fantasy guys are doing.

there's a GW shop in north Vancouver that does fantasy on Thursdays... it's kinda competitive but I'm just back into the flow of the game... people max out characters it seems and people are pushing to get some storm of magic games going.... or just search the forum for players... I'm a dwarf player and can make an army around 4000 points but I'm very slow on painting so if you want to play a nice looking army pm me in about a year...... there are lots of tournaments thou. where you need fully painted army's

Strategies on Main is another good place. They run tournaments for 40k, Fantasy as well as some other games. They're smaller tables, 4'x4' and they require all models to be painted (3 colours, based, no primer showing). There is a 40k tournament coming up towards the end of August and I believe they have a 1500 point fantasy tournament coming up soon as well. Just Google the name of the store.

We're supposedly getting a bunker store to replace Metrotown but that was also already supposed to be open and I haven't heard anything from GW about this at all.

Edit - So after reading this post I decided to call the GW @ Park Royal and asked about the bunker store. He said "someone at head office screwed up some paperwork and that they are back at stage 1 as far as the store is concerned." In otherwords, don't expect a new store any time soon...

I called GW customer support and they say they have no plans for a store in Burnaby or Vancouver. For what that is worth but I don't like how they arn't moving faster on this :.(

WTF???!!?? When I worked there that store always made hand over fist money. We never missed out Target Cash for the month.... We did sometimes miss out on out KPI's tho... damn mines of moria set...=o[


It was one of the oldest GW stores in North America....go figure -shrugs-

This is what I heard last from GW's facebook page, keep in mind that this was August 10th. I would be amazed if they didn't open a new location in Vancouver/Burnaby. The West Vancouver store is terrible for gaming in. They have two tiny tables and barely enough space to walk around the store...

So Games Workshop... Wondering if you have any news on the Vancouver/Burnaby store? I've been talking to quite a few folks here in the Vancouver area and all of us are wondering if this has been shelved or if you're still doing a property hunt? I'd really like to know if there is a plan to support the hordes of gamers here in the area.
In the absence of a GW location that actually has table space to play, a lot of players are moving towards the Privateer Press games (eww...) and it's becoming harder to find a game. I would hate to see my legions of chaos collect much more dust. Thanks for taking the time to answer me!

No date yet, but there's at least an address. Little further east from Metrotown on Kingsway...

Games Workshop: Highgate Village The new store will not be a Games Workshop style Bunker store. It will have three gaming tables and one table for demonstration games. There will be an area for painting. It will have multiple staff members and therefore be open long hours and everyday!

Some more info from their FB page. Looks like it will have the same table space as Metrotown did. Also, because it's in a strip mall, not a real mall, there is some chatter about 'midnight' opening for special releases and possibly apocalypse games.
