just wanted to know if i charged a squad and i then get the squad and stern to cast hammerhand would the increased strenght effect sterns zone of banishment?

After looking the rules for characteristic test and hammerhand, i would have to say yes. If are able to cast hammerhand twice and then Stern's Zone of Banishment, Grey knights would only be removed on a 6.

I thought that Stern was only mastery level 1? (no codex on me at the minute)

nevertheless, I believe it would work, as you are strength 5(+) when you are tasked with the characteristic test.

However, characteristic tests are taken on unmodified values. So the hammer hand strength bonus would not effect the Zone of Banishment test, unless the ZoB is not a characteristic test.

That isn't true. In the BRB, it never says unmodified.

I don't know where I got that rule, but I could have sworn some place in the BRB references unmodified characteristic tests

It is under the Instant Death section that tells you to use Unmodified toughness in reference to Instant Death.

It makes no mention of using unmodified toughness for anything other than Instant death.
