Looking to build a german force to fight my 3rd Canadian Div, here are two lists that I have come up with, wanted some feedback on their viability

List 1 - Panzercompanie 1500pts

CHQ - 2 x Panzer IV w Recovery section (195)

Combat - Panzer Platoon 4 x Panzer IV (380)
Panzer Platoon 4 x Panzer IV (380)

Support - SS Panzergrenadier Platoon (320)
HQ w Sd Kfz 251/1 3 x Squads w Sd Kfz 251/1

Heavy Anti Aircraft Platoon (225)
HQ 2 x Gun Sections w crew upgrade

total - 1500

Seems a little small but I like the panzers and the grenadiers, wish I had more which lead to the second list

Gepanzerte Panzergrenadier Company 1500pts

CHQ - 2 x SMG teams w U304f (75)

Combat - Gepanzerte Panzergrenedier Platoon (315)
HQ w Panzerfaust 3 x Gepanzerte Panzergrenedier squads w extra U304f

Gepanzerte Panzergrenedier Platoon (290)
HQ 3 x Gepanzerte Panzergrenedier squads

Support - Armoured Machinegun Platoon (135)
HQ w U304f 2 x MG sections

Armored Anti-tank Platoon (190)
HQ w S307f(pak 40) 2 x Gun Sections w S307f(pak 40)

Panzer Platoon 4 x Panzer IV (380)

Armored Multiple Mortar Platoon (115)
HQ w U304f 1 x Mortar section w Obs Team 2 x S307f Reihenwerfer

total - 1500

A bit of everything in here infantry plus tanks and some neat mortars

Let me know what you think, which is more effective? Like them both and any changes or alterations will be considered

cheers

From the looks of the two lists, If money and painting time are not being taken into account I would go with the Gepanzerte Panzergrenadier Company. It looks alot more fun to play. Gives you alot of tools to work with and I think you will find it more enjoyable then the "smaller" more restrictive Panzer force. 10 Panzer IVs, a handful of infantry, and two Gun teams doesnt really leave you much room for error. Also I think you may have a problem with more Infantry Driven forces. Especially American's and their 5 million bazookas.

I like the look of the second force as well, model wise it is more interesting. Painting well that is always a challenge! Still trying to plan out exactly what purchases I need to make and trying to do it most efficiently (read cheaply)

did you see anything that might be lacking or anything like that?

cheers

List two has

Infantry (check)
anti armor (check)
pinning artillery and smoke (check)

Only thing I could see possibly being a problem would be the lack of AA and your transports have AA mg.

Seems pretty balanced. Only possible option might be to go to basic panzergriendiers over the armored variety to free up transport points. Transports can be good, but they can also be deathtraps.

I can see using the transport points for something else but I really like the model and idea of dumping a load of grenadiers in someones face!

Gepanzerte Panzergrenadier Company is something I have wanted to build myself. Working on Fallschirmjagers at the moment for Infantry Aces so the Gepanzerte dont really work in Cassino (nor were they there haha).

Cheaply, there are several options for 15mm plastic half-tracks floating around. I think several links have been posted. As well as the 15mm plastic Germans. Those will be as cheap as they come. Id say you could easily build that list from anywhere under 200.00 dollars. +/- of that amount. Though not sure what you would term cheaply.
